Annnnnd we’re back

Yeah, theres a distinct lack of posting lately. Real world stuff, Im afraid.

Oddly, you would think with all the tumult going on in the world there would beĀ  no shortage of things to post about…zika, Trump vs. Tramp, wildfires, earthquakes, economic matters, etc, etc. Face it…it’s an interesting world out there.

I’ve been out doing some travel lately, hence the radio silence. It’s a big world and while parts of it are pretty and have some value, they are only a small fraction of the rest of the country. Yeah, Venice is pretty but as a whole Italy is pretty messed up. And the Acropolis looks awesome, but Greece is a Third World hole. So..yeah…the US has it’s issues but it’s better than most of the options.

So…Cruz has bowed out, much to my surprise. I was dead certain he’d be the party candidate (and I really still haven’t ruled it out completely). The only real question now is if the GOP will rally around the frontrunner or leave him to swing in the wind as a lesson to those who would deign to buck the party power players.

Regardless, I think we’re doomed…again. Im thinking it’s going to be President Hillary…but I am virtually certain it will be a one-term affair. Someone pointed out to me that as polarizing as both players are, even in their own party, there’s an excellent chance of gridlock. Dude, I’m pro-gridlock. Government that governs best, governs least.

And to try and stay somewhat on topic, while cleaning out a few things I managed to find a time capsule to the mid-90’s. Behold:

20160502_101148A box of the ol’ Black Talon ammo. Remember all that hand-wringing? How it would fly through a body like a buzzsaw…never mind that with most conventional rifling twists the bullet wouldnt even make a full revolution before exiting the body. Still, once the bad press hit the media Winchester folded it’s tent, took off the black coating, tinkered a bit, and relaunched it as Ranger SXT …where it sits in a lot of badged holsters. So…twenty year old ammo. Sure, it’ll work just fine but, really, who needs the headache of some zealous mouthbreather telling a jury how horrible you are for using ammo that is so evil it was pulled off the market.

Ah, the 90’s….the first half of that decade really was a fun one for guns.

  1. Regardless of who wins in November, our gun rights are at stake. And I don’t trust the Donald to give us a pro-gun supreme court pick. We are screwed at this point. So regardless, as you have said many times… stock up. I’m envisioning a massive tax increase on ammo as the opening salvo. Then it will be some other “evil” ammo that will get pulled from the shelves. Any bets on what brand it will be?

  2. I’m pro-grid-lock, as well. If congress pays itself millions to do nothing, I guess that’s money well spent.

But if it’s Trump vs Hildabeast, he’s gonna beat her catatonic ass like a friggin’ drum. I’d honestly be more worried if he were running against Bernie. He may be a commie, but he’s a commie with integrity.

    • Damn a “commie with integrity”. What next a democrat pretending to be a republican? Oh, what we already have that running for president!!! Do not confuse integrity with honesty. Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching!

    • A commie with integrity? In the annals of history you can’t find one. A smooth talker he may be, but I don’t consider giving loads of free stuff away as anything other than taxpayer rape.

  3. I have some old boxes of Silvertips that are mostly conversation pieces (9mm, 38sp). Can’t quite bring myself to use them as range ammo, and they are dated technology for carry ammo.

  4. RE: Rethug Convention
Keep in mind that virtually all of the R candidates have “Suspended” their campaigns and not “Ended” them. This means that all those suspended campaigns are eligible to be seated for the Presidency at the R Convention, furthered by the fact that none of them have released their delegates.

Then there is this little jewel:

    RE: Assassination
David DeGerolamo says it more succinctly than I ever could.

  5. I’m betting that the clique will see to it that Trump loses. They have to punish the peasantry for not doing what they were told. Besides, people like the Bush clan, McCain, Graham and that crew don’t care who wins. They still sit and gobble good red meat while we eat lentils, to quote merry Robin Hood.

  6. I was shuffling around the loading bench one day and found some boxes of Black Talons figured I’d keep holding on to them. A few months later I was at the local gun shop and someone was selling the “evil” bullets for $80 a box (20).

I guess anything with a notorious past can increase in value to the right sucker… er… customer.

  7. I agree. That is the same reason I do not load Z-Max in anything that might be called upon to shoot someone. Just don’t need to be muddying the waters on the stand trying to explain whether I felt I was genuinely at risk of threat from zombies. Critical Defense will get the same job done, and has that crucial word “defense” already embedded in the name.

But man, a box of Black Talons at a yard sale will fetch more money now than they did when they were new. Nostalgia being what it is around here, anyway.
