Movie – Amerigeddon

The cheese factory has turned out another wheel of cinematic cheese.

Let’s go through the checklist:

  • The UN as bad guys? Check!
  • Trendy EOTW event? Check!
  • Turn them all in, Mr and Mrs America? Check!
  • Evil foreign conspirators? Check!
  • Surveillance state commentray? Check!
  • Dramatic use of the term “New World Order”? Check!
  • Vilified big businesses and corporations? Check!

Roll em!

Almost seems like Alex Jones should get writing credit, doesn’t it? Interesting to note that the best thing I can find in the cast list as far as a notable actor is….Dina Meyer. Best known, probably, for the incredibad “Starship Troopers” and it’s coed shower scene.

But…yeah…I’ll roll my eyes during the whole thing but watch it anyway. I like EOTW genre films and we haven’t had a collapse movie in a couple years since that last EMP movie.

  1. “that last EMP movie” would be…? And do you recommend it?

Do YOU answer the door with your hands in your pockets as in the movie trailer? Every cop tv show/movie I’ve ever seen “Hands! Show me your hands!” BLAM BLAM BLAM!

  2. I’m also a big fan of Sci-Fi and Post Apocalyptic movies. I frequent a site called QuietEarth.us for new trailers, reviews, etc. Recently stumbled on a link to a short film on Vimeo called “AFK”. It’s only 15 minutes, but it might be the EMP / grid down fix you need!

  3. The makers of the movie were on Fox News this morning. The movie comes out tomorrow in select theaters.

  4. Funny you mentioned Alex Jones. You go to their website under endorsements and Alex’s is the very first one. Also interesting is that Mike Norris, son of Chuck is one of the creators along with Gary Heavin.

  5. Looks like that crowd funded EMP movie, Remnants. The original script was pretty good, but they ran out of money and has to let in some “investors” who screwed the whole thing up. I hadn’t heard of this movie, and I am sure none of our theaters in North Georgia will be given a chance to show it, but I’l like to see it one way or other.

    • I got in on the Kickstarter for “Remnants”, my DVD came with two discs. The lower budget version without Tom Seizemore and the dumbshit government point of view plot wasn’t too bad. It’s a shame more low budget non-Hollywood movies can’t find funding.

  6. Tinfoil radio had the directors and an actor (I think) on the radio this morning.
Archive link to the show is here if you want to listen to it. Today’s show is not linked yet, but the should have it up before much later I think

Alex is in the movie from what I heard him say today. His main reporter is, too. I forget his name though 🙁

All the critics of the acting and cinematography – it’s an indie film. Don’t expect Guardians of the Galaxy-like special effects 🙂 Go for the story and message, not the acting.

I’ll be seeing it tomorrow. I expect a Syfy B-grade production. We’ll see what I get!

    • So.. I saw it this afternoon. Was a little campier than I expected.
I’ll write some sort of review post it later on tonight

  7. I just re-watched “Remnants” last night (the original not the rebranded holloweird one)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MnraRRb6lQ and had to really laugh at a few parts. It’s a worthwhile watch if you’re in the mood for a B rated movie where you’ll be most likely yelling at the TV.

  8. Funny, the bad guy resembles Trump. I’ll hold my nose and vote for him, but loghts out movie would really be interesting
    Chris

    • I thought he was more angled toward a Soros personally.
He was too over the top evil-man to be trump. IMO.

  9. Agreed…looks terrible and I too will be seeing it not for the cinematic effects but for the story line. A story line that may very well indeed become a part of our history very very soon. Possibly as soon as the next inaugeration?

  10. SPOILIERS – SPOILERS.SPOILIERS – SPOILERS.SPOILIERS – SPOILERS.SPOILIERS – SPOILERS.SPOILIERS – SPOILERS.

DO NOT READ IF YOU DO WANT TO KNOW DETAILS OF THE MOVIE.

This movie is not aimed at US, the (mostly?) informed and aware of the need of preparation for hard times. In fact, I think most of us will be mildly offended at how over the top some of the situations are, but.. again.. I really don’t think we’re the target audience.
Everything that is obvious to us, was made more obvious by the actors actually verbalizing it. “avg people have less than 3 days of food” things like that

I went to a matinee and I was pleasantly surprised at how many people were there. At least 50 people of mixed ages and ethnic backgrounds one group of adults came in, and the grandma raised her arms out like a cross and addressed the theater “Patriots unite!” and some ‘Here, heres’ and claps followed.

Ok – some observations. Last chance to avoid spoilers…
Alex’s character was confusing. Was he supposed to be someone in the know about what was coming down? Was he just a power hungry politician being offended by the upstart citizen? His reaction to the main protagonist calling the committee out on failing to protect critical infrastructure was a bit confusing.
There was no real explanation on what the guy was even doing there. I wasn’t clear on whether he was there at an open forum, or if he was some special consultant delivering his analysis.
Very campy in the second half of the movie. Some dark/sardonic humor is fine, but Syfy style physical gags like lighting yourself on fire after a failed experiment and jumping around saying “Ohh that’s hot, hot!” is, yeah…unneeded
Facing down, by yourself, a UN squad of 4 vehicles, and about 20 armed soldiers, that have pulled up to your single-bar cattle gate and cracking jokes about the leaders name, and commenting on how you are a part time inventor? Unneeded and completely removed *any* chance at *any* drama or tension. I FULLY expected this person to be SMOKED and the UN to roll through, but… nope.
The 50 cal gunner got his weapons training from the back of a cereal box…
TOO many one liners. I mean, wow. Really detracted from the urgency of their character’s situations.. “Let’s see what this baby can do” “Let’s do this” “what’s your name? *laughs* it sounds like a sneeze”
The audio… NOT surround. Was enhanced stereo. Disappointed in that but I guess it’s really expensive.. *shrug*
The world the movie took place in was VERY small. I think the biggest set of actor/extra casting took place at the college.
The training base had zero logistics. Or anyone else on it or involved with it other than the immediate protagonists and antagonists.
No one came looking for them? They had hardened comms, but there was never any radio traffic out or into the base?
There were no “meanwhile” cut away shots showing anything going on. Anywhere else. No riot scenes? No UN military convoys rolling across the SF bridge or into Manhattan?
Riding a motocyle, on a highway, for miles, and NO ONE is on the side of the road? Coming to see who it is? Someone coming to try and take it?
No one- it was like the EMP killed everyone except the movie cast 🙁
    Helicopter dog fight? Really? /sigh
Satellite with single GIANT nuke inside of it? /sigh
556 rifle recoil when shot by 15yr old reminiscent of hot loaded 45/70? /sigh
That the 15 yr old actually said “Oh good! I hope I get to play with his AR15!” instead of something like “Does he still let people shoot off his back deck?”
Special effects were B grade SyFy as predicted. The helicopter explosion mid air and then crash was the most realistic and well done, but it was still obviously CGI.

This all being said – I’ll buy it to support their attempt. It was an OK first attempt. Some rough spots of story telling, but some sweet moments between family members.
I expected a more serious depiction of the general fear and concern around the topics they showed. This came off, after reflection, being more in line with what you’d expect after watching a 2 hour TV series premier setting up a serialized TV show.
