Article – The Two Americas of 2016

Check out this article from the NYT.

This seems, on its face, to be a pretty good example of why there is an electoral college. If the the places that voted for Clinton were geographically separated and condensed into one state, it would be the size of Alaska. So, think about this…49 states would have no say in government since they would all be overridden by one state.

Interesting map. And, yes, I’m in the Montana Archipelago… it’s a college town, whaddya expect.

  1. I have a small quibble with their map. The area assigned to New Mexico….is pretty much devoid of human habitation except for Albuquerque, and a small island of Santa Fe, the rest is open range….so I guess that says a lot about Clinton voters as cattle….

  2. “So, think about this… 49 states would have no say in government since they would be overridden by one state.”

So your saying that one large metro area with “culture” and “progressive values” could pass laws governing a MUCH larger area that supplies and supports it. Where did I see that recently?

“Our enemy is not like us. They do not share our values. They have never known our comfort and our sophistication. And they despise us for it. Make no mistake. They are not coming to liberate us, they are coming to destroy our way of life.”

I know that Rome once thought that way.

Northern Virginia? That at least is why and how a couple small counties, that I’d love to see re-returned back to the District of Columbia(Virginia at one point had ceded land just as had Maryland for the formation of the nations capital, DC returned it), keep turning the rest our state blue, at least at the gubernatorial and federal election levels…
