Mag inventory and listing

Since 2007 is my Year To Buy Things I May Not Be Able To Purchase After 2008, I need to see exactly what the hell it is I’m deficient in and need to spend money on. Todays endeavor is a magazine inventory. However, it is not as simple as counting magazines and logging that number somewhere. Nope. The life of Commander Zero is never that easy. Or cheap. It aint all sunshine and stun grenades, sometimes its annoying, time-wasting, mind-numbing hours spent sifting through ammo cans, scribbling on clipboards, transcribing to computer spreadsheets and the like.

But…if I don’t do it, it aint gonna get done. And the apocalypse does not like excuses. And when whatever Democrat wins 2008 and smugly stands at a podium with Chuck Schumer and his fellow travellers and says “Today we take this step to make America safer for our children!” I want to be able to prop my feet up on a 40mm can of AR-mags and say “Too late, you treasonous weasel.”

So..today we:
inventory magazines
segregate a quantity of magazines for deep storage
list out what mags are needed
source mags
compare pricing
prepare order for next payday

On tap today: 1911, P35, AR, AK, FAL, Glock, 10/22 and MkII mags.

Which reminds me. If you’ve got an HK91 or good clone of one, Lew Horton (800-446-7866) has excellent condition genuine HK 91 alloy mags, 20-rd, for around a buck and a half each. Product # is, I think, IOAG3E or SCHG3E. If you dont order at least 50 at that price youre too stupid to be reading this blog. And before someone chimes in and asks, no I have no idea if they’ll fit the CETME but I would bet theres a FAQ somewhere that’ll answer that question for you.

And if, like me, you dont own an HK91, you may wanna buy some for ‘speculation’ purposes in case we get another AW magazine ban. For $2 per OEM mag how can you not make back your money several times over?

  1. I need some more G19-15 mags. I’m sorry I didn’t pick up more the last time I was in town, but I didn’t realize how bad the G19-10 design is until I had a chance to compare them with the same loading. Next time I’m in town …

  2. You realize that in the vast wasteland of the internet there might be some people willing to send you these magazines vie snailmail? Not that *I* would ever do such a thing, mind you. But Im sure theres *someone* you could email and make arrangements with.

  3. Hmm. Good idea. I’ll have to try to think of someone.

On another topic, I just picked up some cheap Chinese BDUs from Sportsmans Guide. They’re $15 ($14 club). I got the digital desert pattern, as it’s the best general purpose camo pattern for around here (blends in perfectly with the soil and dry leaves) plus it also doesn’t show dirt very much. I got them primarily for work pants, and I liked the first couple I got so much that I bought some more. Recommended if you don’t mind buying Chinese.

WX2-111224, Color: Ripstop Cotton Digi Desert BDU (Ripstop Di on the dropdown size/color box).

  4. Not that I would ever violate the PRK’s ban hi-cap magazines, but if someone were interested in obtaining after-market mags for a Ruger Mini 14/30, is there a particular company you would recommend?

  5. I would strongly suggest (assuming you move out of Kali, of course) the Ruger factory 20 rounders. They have been coming down lately, Cheaper than Dirt has them for 30$, 27 if you are in the “buyers club”.
(Currently out of stock, but they get more pretty frequently.)

I’ve also had good luck with PMI mags, but I know several people who haven’t.

  6. I have a local dealer who is selling honest-to-god Ruger made 20- and 30- rd. mags in the original Ruger mailing boxes. I think theyre $40 ea. Might be less. I know he’s got a pile of them.

  7. I really wish I would have known that before I spent $20 apiece on CETME mags back when I bought my CETME. Of course, I got my CETME right when the Century builds first came out and the price of CETME mags dropped considerably right after that. D’uh!

  8. Ok, anyone have a good and cheap source for the following?

*FACTORY* Browning Hi Power 13 round mags WITH the “Mouse trap” spring.

I tried brand new Mec Gars and they don’t want to eject out of my FN Highpower. I set them aside for trading stock and know I’m looking for Browning marked mags. Funny thing is the aftermarket KRD mags function and eject fine.

Exc to Like New condition FN FAL mags.

Exc condition 20 and 30 round 7.62 AK mags.

.308 Stripper clips suitable for loading FAL mags.

Btw, for M-1 Carbine mags or M-14 mags, check out Cole Distributing. I got some like new carbine mags for $9 apiece when I ordered 10. They all work great and look better then the mags I had. (I still wish I would have bought 100 back when they were $1 each before ’94)

  9. Funnyyou should mention. I’ve beenwanting those for a while and havent found any.

    Until now.
