Go deep

One is none, forty thousand is one.

It occurs to me that one of the better reasons for having a ‘group’, rather than being solo, is to have some folks to help you carry the damn ammo up and down the stairs. Whew.

This will be Deep Sleep ammo. For target and plinking I’ll use whatever is available at WalMart or wherever, but this stuff goes right in there with the Mountain House stuff. The only time I expect to see it again is during some enormous crisis or when I transport it to the Beta Site. And, for the record, each 40mm ammo can holds 8,250 rounds…or 165 boxes of 50. And they’re heavy….right at the limit of man-portability.

  1. Looks good. I would interject what I need to do as well. Splitting up assets into a couple/few pre-staged load out zones or storage places is in order to prevent an entire loss of stockpiles in an “unfortunate incident” i.e. pipe burst/flooded basement-household whether your pipes, neighbors, city pipes weather-storms. House fires, forest/brush fires. Neighbors house fire catching yours. Vehicle/aircraft crashes into or near your home/bunker. Unwelcomed intrusion by authorities of different stripes for many different reasons you did not intend ot initiate. Super short evacuation deadline scenario that means get out or die and what you have with is all you will ever have, etc. A little mental war gaming and I realized “oh shucks” not a good plan!

    • Short 40. Taller ones would weigh way too much. Guy on Craigslist selling the short 40’s at $20/@, by the way.

  2. I have one of those 40mm ammo cans. It is filled with my odds and ends. Not buying any more of those, sticking with the 50 cal cans for my deep store.

  3. Hi Zero,

You mention picking up plinking ammo at Walmart. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on their decision to discriminate against 18 to 20-year-old Americans by ignoring the law (not to mention the 2nd Amendment) and refusing to sell them ammo or long guns. I just made the choice to never shop there again. I was wondering how you and anyone else felt about the situation.

    • I think a business has the right to sell or not sell a product to a particular customer base…the same way that customer base has the right to refuse to do business with that business.

      • There’s a lawsuit against Dick’s in Oregon which looks like it might have legs. Age discrimination isn’t covered by the Federal Civil Rights Act, but it is covered by some states’ laws, and Oregon is one of them.
See Eugene Volokh’s comments in link on my name.

    • The courts have ruled that a business has no discretion in whom it will do business with they have to treat everyone the same.
If a Christian baker must bake a wedding cake for gay weddings, then under the same law a Walmart must do business with 18 – 21 year old.

        • He’s not ‘Murican, so you gotta take it with a grain of salt and remember the perspectives may be…different.
