Watergun: grips

Set of grip screws arrived today. Had some cheesey plastic P35 grips laying around, so no extra cost there. Also had a couple crappy USA Brand P35 mags sitting around that I never got around to throwing out. (USA mags are unbelievably worthless.) Took the followers out and put them into he mags that rose form the depths with the Watergun. Result: functioning magazines. So, all thats left is replace the parts for the rear sight and get the gun coated with something.

  1. how about coating with high temperature stove spray paint? then bake it….

  2. My dad had kept an old Tokarev on his boat (salt water) that had gotten surface rust / pitted up a bit (little worse than your Hi-Power). Went ahead and removed the rust, then had it parkerized, and Duracoated it semi-gloss Black (outer surfaces only). The park helped to fill in the pits a lot, as well as protecting the internals. The Duracoat (did not thin it) finished the job. It now looks like it just came from the factory. Been a couple of years back on the boat (and 300 rd.s) and still looks great.

  3. Maybe a long soak in evapo rust to ensure all rust , in tiny minute places-unseen, is nuetralized. Semi gloss nuclear quality black paint is way to go. Make a cool desk drawer gun for shooting flies or bugs on the walls.

  4. May I suggest “weathering” those grips a bit. The lake-worn look is intriguing but the grips sorta ruin the effect. Otherwise, the resto is impressive. BZ.
