Knife, mags

Well, my BK&T TacTool arrived today. I like it. Its just the ticket for cutting, smashing, prting and cutting your way out of a building, vehicle or other wreckage. I need to rummage through thebunker and find some old webbing to test the web-cutting hook on.
=====
Also received my 100 HK91 mags. Thats it, I’m done! I’ve got enough of the darn things now that I am not going to contemplate getting any more. For the record, 75 mags will fit in a 40mm ammo can. Nine will fit in your average .30 cal. can. I have two 40mm cans and five .30 cans sitting in the rack right now with “HK91 mags” written on the tags. Dude, thats alot of mags.

Speaking of mags, someone asked me in email about best deals for AK mags. So far, its this: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=282484 12/$80 or $6.67 ea. A darn good deal..esp. since they are nt Chinese manufacture.

  1. I e-mailed questions@lewhorton.com about getting some mags from them, and their response was, “As we are a wholesale distributor, you would need to contact a local dealer regarding pricing and purchasing-sorry!” Know anyplace off hand wrt getting a good deal on those? Also, any thoughts on 16″ vs. 18″ bbl on the PTR-91? Shaving 2″ off a barrel might not seem like much, until you try to stash it somewhere that’s an inch too short 😛 I’ve heard though that 18″ is thought sort of a minimum for 7.62×51 though.

  2. I’d imagine that your local FFL might be willing to order them in for you without too much fuss.

    The .308 does seem to suffer once you get below a certain length so I prefer the longer barrel. It seems to me like if 2″ of barrel makes that huge a difference in concealment or carrying then maybe you need a handgun instead. On the other hand, drop in a surplus G3 telestock and the problem is moot.

  3. On the barrel length issue, I was thinking more of stashed in a convenient inconspicuous location more than trying to carry/conceal a rifle, even if it is a carbine length barrel with a telescoping stock. Your suggestion was pretty much what I was leaning towards, but I was pondering the idea of the KPF model.

    I sprang for the 12/$80 mag deal a month or two back.

    I got: 5 Yugo bolt hold open mags, 6 Yugo/Russian non-BHO mags and a Chinese.

    10 had most of their original finish, one had 2 visible surface rust spots and one had no finish and visible pitting, but was functional otherwise. One magazine had a small dent in the mag body, but this did not render it inop. SG will swap out mags you don’t find acceptable, but I decided to hang onto mine.

    I also ordered 6 of their East German rain camo 4 cell mag pouches for $1 each. Thread a loop of 1.5″ nylon webbing through the belt loops and secure it with a buckle, and you’ve got a $2 4 magazine go-bag.

    Total for all these riches was $102 shipped. I consider that A Good Deal.
