2020 is really turning out to be something, isn’t it? Who knew?

I’m still trying to keep my focus and work my way down the list of things I want to make sure I have plenty of on-hand. Interestingly, one of the things I keep on hand is a pretty decent supply of rubber buckshot and rubber slugs.

Watching the various riots is proving interesting. No one seems to be wanting to go full Rodney King Riots… I see lotsa crowds waving celphones but very few molotov cocktails, and I see lotsa cops with pepperball guns and very few people actually shooting real bullets. It’s like neither side wants to really commit.

Oh sure, there are exceptions…but broadly speaking it looks like the looters are doing just enough to avoid getting shot and the cops are throwing around just enough weight to avoid using real ammo.

For me, this is all pointless. I live in a place that is rather…mmmm….homogenous. And that tends to trend toward less crime and violence. There’ll be some college kids who think they’re “allies” or somesuch and may wave some banners or something….but a half dozen guys in black bandanas breaking windows? Someone asked me if it was time to tuck a carbine behind the drivers seat ‘just in case’. My opinion was ‘no’. Just do like you normally do and carry a pistol and, for here, you’re probably just fine.

However, if I lived somewhere else where this sorta stuff was happening….totally different story.

  1. We’re less than a couple hours from Minneapolis. I commute to work on a major egress route out of the Twin Cities area.

    That said, while I agree that the vast majority of areas aren’t at the vehicular carbine stage, I have upgraded from a 38 snub to an old school wonder 9mm & a couple spare mags in the vehicle (along with a couple holster options). Plus I’m ensuring that whatever shirt I’m wearing to work will conceal this monstrosity if I elect to strap it on.

    But sufficient fuel and some good maps will be much more useful. Especially as my step daughter just started back at work (same place, just a slightly different shift now).

  2. Yeah, I’m sure a lot of other folks are checking their stocks of ammunition and magazines. Ruger Mini-14 / AR-15s / Mossberg or Remington pump shotguns dusted off. I would hate to be in a urban center where the ‘freedom = looting and property damage’ mentality is high. I don’t know if they are burning their own stores or smashing vehicle glass but I’m guessing a big nope on that.

    The MSM is blaming mainly Trump (Rascist !!) and the police for this, but in truth, they are fanning flames of discontent for political gain. Always easier to vote for change when you are unhappy and they are doing all they can to put fuel on the flames.

You are the hoarder that the patriotic Americans hated just a mear 4 weeks ago. Same jokers saying these rioters and looters are bad people…. are same one whos want Civil War 2…are same ones who said they are making a list of those who have supplies stored just a mear 4 weeks ago. comical at best. be darn sure We the people will loot your home, rape your dog and shoot your wife…Just like the locals used Dekulakization to remove, kill and steal. At least these rioters have balls to do something about it.

    • To applaud the “courage” of the rioters is ignorance at best and evil at worst. They are political and criminal opportunists. They have not contributed anything productive in their lives but live off of the largesse of the very system they seek to tear down. Should they ever get their way (anarchy) civilized folk would have to shoot them.

    • Clearly yupyup is one of those asshats, that thinks he will being coming for your stuff. He might want to listen to what the Polk County Sheriff in Florida said. These rioters do not represent the law-bidding patriots of this country. Most are Antifa, criminal opportunist, and lastly snot nosed white college kids who have been indoctrinated to believe in the world wide socialist movement. If they try and enter the suburbs, it will no longer be fun and games. It will be the real deal!!!

    • I suspect the suburbs will be much safer than most rural parts of the country.

      By the way, a good portion of the people waving the American and Gadsden flags are the people opposing dirtbags like the rioters.

      And there is a HUGE difference between the law abiding protesters and the rioters.
      The main reason that the rioters have lasted this long is that the law abiding citizens understand restraint and have a desire for peace. Push them to the point where that ends and blood will be spilled.

  5. I would not recommend using rubber buckshot or slugs. If you need to shoot someone, legally it needs to be in circumstances that justify using deadly force. If it justifies deadly force, then it doesn’t make sense to use anything less than deadly force: real bullets at high velocities.

    Remember that you probably won’t have a couple other guys with lethal weapons backing you up in the event that your less-lethal rubber loads fail to stop the target.

    • CZ, two points:
      Courts have shown great disfavor toward the use of deadly force in a less-than-lethal manner. You, as a private citizen, will not enjoy the dispensation they lay on the badge toters in this sort of endevour.

      Quite often the po-po have a designated shotgun for this purpose, even painted a bright color. The problem is they mix up the ammo. There are efforts to chamber the guns for custom ammo, which can still cause problems.
      I have encountered ammo mixups in 3-gun matches in the “select-slug” scenarios. VERY common to have this happen when you introduce some stress into a shooting scene. It’s not real combat, and people still screw it up.
      Did you see the female reporter that lost an eye to a rubber ball fired at a media crew? Think that won’t be an expensive hit? You really don’t want to end up in court with someone you damaged. If they are worth shooting, you should be doing it properly, not futzing around.
      They’re not that accurate, and results are more varied than real ammo. This is not good.

  6. I’m in a midwestern college town, pretty similar to Missoula, 70K people and a pretty good drive away from any larger city. Everything here is quiet. Everything here is always quiet, which is sorta the whole point of being here.

  8. I mean does anyone really give two sh$t’s anymore? The political class will always protect itself, meaning it will do everything in its power to create anger, fear and division to remain in their cushy lifestyles. We as Americans should be demanding political reform in term limits and a hell a lot more of accountability for one’s actions. That being said, maybe bringing back our moral compasses could help. Add a bit of public humiliation for being a scum bag or freeloader we might get through this. I am astounded on how idiotic the citizens of this country are. I see the social media posts and it is down right moronic the thought process of so many. Many of us cannot accept we all have a place in this world. It is not always the best or the most comfortable and that is how it is. You can work your ass off and still die poor and alone. That is truly life. We are never going to get better because we are a nation of ungrateful mouth breathers who actually believe they have the absolute right to do whatever they feel without consequence. I cannot just go out and punch someone in the mouth without consequence but they can? It is actually a three tiered justice system now. Political, Loyalist and then the rest of us. I sometimes wonder why in the hell I spent 3/4 of my adult in service/combat for this. I am sorry, but I do not give a crap what happens because in the end we are are going to pay for it even if we do not want to. They will all get away with this, the taxes will be raised, inflation is going to skyrocket and it will go on and on. If POTUS wins, it will be round 3 of this crap.

  9. There was looting occurring within 30 minutes of where I reside right now. Since I have to travel towards the zones with the rioters in them I’ve added my 10.5″ AR pistol to my daily carry. 1 30 rounder in it and another 3 in the book bag with it.

    Also upped my pistol mag count from 2 to 3. 45+1 rounds of 40 s&w ain’t nothing to sneeze at.

  11. Things seem downright serious in Seattle, LA, Minneapolis, DC and ATL.

    On a positive note I recently moved from the suburban outside of our greater capitol city to a sleepy village of 600. My concern about having to deal with riots is currently low.

  12. Chicago and the suburbs have been hit hard and it is coordinated attacks. Big box stores 5 miles away looted in systematic fashion, the motor vehicle office 3 miles away firebombed. Local businesses boarded up,police stopping uhauls on “suspicion” of stolen goods tranport. But no relaxation of anti-2nd Amend laws.
    No one seems to want to admit the police started this when the first looter was shot the police arrested the owner who was protecting himself,his family and his business and allowed the looting to continue. I watched the video of the Chicago police continuing their long history of police riots by attacking nonviolent protesters and giving legitimacy to rioters.

    A friend moved west to a prarie states biggest city. When the protesters there assembled the police allowed peaceful protest but warned any attempt to loot/arson would be met with deadly force and owners could protect lives/property,no looting/arson.

    • I saw that weird commi mayor of chi town is begging the big box and high end stores stay and reopen. I wouldn’t bother answering the phone, or waste a good piss on her.

  13. A quick check here and I’ve only got a few bean bag rounds for a less lethal option.
    Online is showing “out of stock, no backorder”.
    Any ideas where a guy can order up any?

    Just an observation, corporate chain stores, including the local Wally World, closed up early last night. They said it was due to riots, looting and general damage control. 🤦‍♂️
