That Facebook thing

It’s one of those things that maybe-its-true-maybe-it-isn’t. What are we talking about? Facebook’s latest foray into the social credit and pre-crime fields – if you’re “too prepared” you might be an extremist.

Some linkage of varying pedigree……

I know, I know….we’re all on a list already, whats one more, right? But, if there’s any truth to this then it’s the classic ‘marginalize a group so you can persecute them freely’ ploy.

You’re preparing for [martial law/hurricanes/Xenu/blizzards/Rapture/blackouts]? Then you’re showing a lack of faith in .gov’s ability to protect and that means you are, de facto, ‘anti government’. Or something like that. The logic, such as it is, will be pretty convoluted.

But, regardless, you’ll be marginalized…anything you say will always be discounted by other people because “Oh, he’s one of those…”. And at some point, that whole ‘if you see something, say something’ nonsense will include guys like you and me walking out of Sportsmans Warehouse with too many Magpuls or too many gas cans.

And just like that, Facebook made everyone’s grandmother into a terrorist……….

  1. I’m too lazy to research it – but it reeks of a hoax. Facebook is notorious for silly little hoaxes like this. They should cancel themselves for being a dispenser of conspiracies.

    • Agreed. The reports I’ve seen are all at least third hand and often don’t add up, so I’ll wait to worry about it until I get better confirmation.

  2. Facebook is Orwell’s 1984 come true. TPTB don’t have to watch people, the good citizens report themselves and their friends, family, and aquaintances complete with photos, timeline and locations.

Meanwhile the people in New Orleans are (once again) crying about no water, food, gasoline or medical care. Even though there has been hurricanes in the area for about the last several thousand years very few seem to be able to fend for themselves, leave the area or do anything other than act like the sheep they are and beg to suck on the government (taxpayer) teat.

      • Easy-just say “you were warned” and only distribute bodybags. I do have friends in the bayous of Louisiana and they fully agree.

  3. Every once in a while I need a reminder of why going against the flow and having nothing to do with face book is a good thing. Thanks!

  4. Maybe people will “take back” the name like homosexuals did with “queer”…

Then they’ll have the boogyman they fear.

But yeah, hard to do daily blogging without daily blabbing. I’ve certainly cut back, I don’t do a “weekly prepping successes” roundup any more, nor do I encourage readers to do so. Part of that is living in pandemic lockdown was more USING preps than building them up. Part is an increase in circumspection. I’ve seen that in other places too.

  5. Fakebook, f**kbook, foubtol or whatever you cal it, hoax or not, if people, preppers or not, cannot see that we are now living in a state of society and gummint control that, if not worse than the commie state of the USSR, pre modern Russia, is damn close to it. And our out of control ferals & state gummy mints are now on par with the CCP. If you cannot see that you have been asleep for the last 40 years, and deserve to be living in the cave in which you have been asleep. Which is exactly where the ferals want you to be.

    • If you think that we are now on a par with the CCP, you’re living in the wrong place. Where I live there was never a lockdown. There is no license required to carry concealed and there are no state income taxes or sales taxes.

  6. Any connection to the “social media” is a foray into the worst of narcissism, self lothing, bragadotio and a host of mental illnesses. The sooner it is shut down as a “public health danger” the better.

  7. I was going to comment that even FEMA recommends prepping, but I checked their site and they only recommend 3 days of food and water. You’d have to be pretty destitute or stupid to keep only 3 days of food on hand.

  8. The ON/OFF switch; your best defense against Faceplant…

Warning to Zuckererg; stay off my lawn…

  9. From a couple of acquaintances who work at FaceBorg, it’s likely factual. That said, this is a translation from a German article about 6-7 years ago (sorry, I don’t recall who published or wrote it).
Americans & Brits living in their respective surveillance societies would do well to learn from the East Germans, whose STASI were the precursor to today’s social media thought police:
    1) They Were Gaslighting before It Was a Thing
The Stasi were prolific gaslighters. In the 1950s, repression was brutal, physical torture. Early in the 1970s, eager to be accepted on the international stage, the East German Secret Police had to get more subtle. The aim of Zersetzung (a repurposed military term meaning disintegration or corrosion) was to “switch off” any activist individuals and groups who might threaten the Party. Police collected medical, school, and police records, interviews with neighbors and relatives, and any other evidence they could get and would then customize a direct hit on an individual’s mental health.
If someone looked like he might challenge the Communist Party’s legitimacy or control, the Stasi systematically destroyed his life. They used blackmail, social shame, threats, and torture. Careers, reputations, relationships, and lives were exploded to destabilize and delegitimize a critic. Some forms of harassment were almost comical: agents spread rumors about their targets, flooded their mailboxes with pornography, moved things around in their apartments, or deflated their bicycle tires day after day. Others were life-altering: Individuals labeled as subversives were banned from higher education, forced into unemployment, and forcibly committed to asylums. Many suffered long-term psychological trauma, loss of earnings, and intense social shame as a result of Stasi lies.
    2) They Were (Almost) Everywhere
The Stasi had 91,000 employees at its peak—roughly one in every 30 residents was a Stasi agent. More than one in three East Germans (5.6 million) was under suspicion or surveillance, with an open Stasi file. Another half million were feeding the Stasi information. This level of surveillance and infiltration caused East Germans to live in terror—you really never knew if you could trust anyone—though most had no idea of the scope of these activities until after the Berlin Wall fell.
    3) They Kept a Crazy Amount of (Meticulous) Records
Stasi files laid out together would cover about 69 sq. miles. Recording detailed personal information on a third of the populace required a tremendous amount of paper. More pages of printed text were generated by the Stasi than by all German authors from the Middle Ages to WWII. Thousands of citizens were targeted as anti-government “trouble makers,” their homes were searched, phones and cars—if they were lucky enough to have either—were bugged, their letters opened and copied, and their movements secretly filmed or photographed. Every document went into a personal Stasi file. So far, hundreds of millions of files, 39 million index cards, 1.75 million photographs, 2,800 reels of film and 28,400 audio recordings have been recovered from Stasi archives. Millions more were shredded before they could be made public.

  10. I’ve been on Facebook for years as a means to keep in touch with distant friends and family, nothing more. Before logging onto Facebook, I always use my Norton to clear history and cookies and when I’m on Facebook, I use a VPN.

On Facebook, I’m in zero groups, I don’t “like” posts and I don’t comment on posts if they are political. If I want to comment on something a friend has posted that’s political, I comment to that friend via email.

Only an idiot would join one of these groups on Facebook. The moment you like, follow or join a group you are giving the AI fodder to track you and manipulate what you see. It’s OPSEC, not rocket science.

BTW, here’s an example of how stupid the Facebook AI is. ⬇⬇⬇

  11. Beginning to think these asshats have a bit to much time on their hands. Maybe they should take up basket weaving at the local Looney bin. According to Bug Out Biden it quiets the nerves and relaxes the brain. Notice how relaxed his is.

  12. This may not being going on as described in Faceplant, but it is going on. Out here in the Wild, Wild West, the pussyfarting “governor” is up for recall. One of his radio commercials goes as follows; “And who is orchestrating this recall? Deep-pocketed GOP organizations. Trump supporters. Right-Wing extremists; even some who MAY have been at the Capitol Building on 1/6.” Never mind the fact that he would lose a debate against a cucumber, cares more about illegal aliens than Americans, and has either taxed or locked down businesses to the point they’ve left the state. It’s those E-E-E-VIL RIGHT-WING EXTREMISTS who want him gone…

Anyone who questions at all the direction this country’s going in IS being demonized, folks. Be ready for what comes next… Hint; I WON’T be getting on the train…
