Possible MH group buy

Bet you didnt even know i had a filter, didja?
If youre reading this, then your on my filter either because you took part in one of the previous group buys or because I think its something you might have interest in.

Im toying with the idea of another Mountain House group buy. They are a termendous pain in the ass for me to do but I love you all so much that Im willing to go through the incredible hassle.

Oh…and…well…I like getting a discount ont he stuff so I can resupply.

Anyway, if youve done these before with me you already know how they go. This buy will be for cans AND pouches. That means much bigger selection. New additions this year include #10 cans of cottage cheese, strawberries, bananas and macaroni & cheese.

Minimum order this time around is $3000 so if I can get enough people willing to buy enough to add up to that amount, we can make it happen. If anyone is interested, email me at zero@commanderzero.com and I’ll email you the form letter with details.

Please keep this partiucular group purchase under your hat, hm? I really dont wanna read about it in a discussion forum somewhere. So, please…shhhhhh.

EDIT: How long does this stuff last? Ask this guy..he bought his in 1975.

  1. Do you by any chance want to split any cases? I want such an assortment of different things, not six of one thing. If you feel the same way, perhaps we can split some of whatever you find you can eat? (Unless, of course, you want full cases of the same thing, then nevermind!)

  2. I’m going to take a look at it tomorrow during break, and I won’t be online again until maybe 9pm Pacific. I don’t know if that’s too late for you. I’m guessing I’ll want full cases, but if you want to split stuff, feel free to propose something! Variety is good!

  3. I ended up putting in my order. I don’t really need full cases of everything, so if there’s anything you’d like to swap let me know. I’d prefer to have more of a variety.

I’m particularly interested in finding someone who is ordering the uncooked egg mix #10 can because I’d like a can or two (or maybe three) of that. It sounds like the Good Commander would be able to facilitate the $ offset. (Those eggs are EXPENSIVE!)

I’m getting full cases of #10 cans of:

    oatmeal with blueberries
    seafood chowder
    beef stroganoff
    blueberry cheesecake

  4. I could split an egg mix case with you. I was considering buying the whole thing, so I’d be happy taking either five of the six or four of the six cans. The dealbreaker could be cost. I don’t have a price on that; do you, , or do you, ?

Beyond that, I’m going for ingredients instead of meals. Interested in half a case of diced chicken? I’m iffy on whether I want to purchase that one.

  5. My guess is that the uncooked eggs with butter #10 case would be about $245, something over $40/can. They’re wicked expensive, even considering it’s about 50 servings. I’d like a can or two of uncooked eggs with butter, but I’d rather trade out something so I can keep full cases for shipping.

I asked my husband and he wasn’t interested in the diced chicken. We’re going more for prepared meals this time as I already have a fair amount of #10 cans of shelf-stable ingredients from other buys. 🙂

(In TEOTWAWKI situations I imagine I’d immediately break out into chicken-raising. We’d just want some quick and easy meals to tide us over in the mean-time.)

  6. Wow, that IS expensive. I think I’m actually going to bow out of that one. It makes me start to wonder how hard it is to freeze-dry my own eggs!

Living chickens are definitely a better approach than freeze-dried diced meat. Good for you! There will come a day when I’ll be able to broaden my planning like that, too.

Sounds like we have opposite situations: I have the meals and want the ingredients. Well, it was worth a shot.

edit: Dangit, no, I’m in for the eggs with butter. I can’t imagine getting a better deal elsewhere real soon, and I don’t currently have the time to dehydrate my own effing eggs.

Sadly I don’t know what I could trade with you; I’m not looking for any of the stuff you’re buying. I know the Commander wants orders only by the case. I’m ordering: eggs, ground beef cooked, garden green peas. I wouldn’t mind a couple extra of the beef or peas, or maybe one or two cans of chicken, scrambled eggs w/bacon, or green beans. Those weren’t on your list, though.

  7. Is anyone else interested in chiming in here? Perhaps someone wants a can of what I’ve got (granola, beef stroganoff, blueberry cheesecake, seafood chowder) and would be willing to trade something you want (beef, chicken, scrambled eggs/bacon, green beans) and you could then free up a can of eggs for me.

If that doesn’t work, this is a bit pricey for me, but how do you feel about me buying 1/3 of your things – 2 cans of eggs, two cans of ground beef, two cans of peas? That leaves you with just two cases, though, not three, and leaves me with more food than I have any idea what to do with!

It sounded like some of this stuff can get worked out in the end before shipping, thanks to the good graces of the Commander.

  8. It occurs to me that while the Commander needs full cases for ordering, he may not need each customer to receive an integer number of cases for shipment. I could just sell you one or two cans of eggs on the side, if he’s willing to ship that way. , what say you?

  9. Awesome! Done deal. , let me know whether you want one or two, and if you could give me a hint as to your e-mail address (domain, for example) so I can whitelist it in my filters, we can chat money via e-mail. I am my lj handle at my lj handle dot org.

  10. You don’t know how paranoid I get about these things. Sigh. I tried emailing you just now with “Gwendally” in the subject line. See if that works. I can’t bring myself to give you my domain even on a friends-locked post.

Oh: wait: try this one. Dally@myself.com should work.
