Drudge Report has a little something about how the feds are shipping chemwarfare antidotes to the cities that will be hosting the political conventions this year.
Toldja so.

If it were me, and, happily, it aint, I would probably make real sure I kept an ear on the news if I lived in one of those cities.

This years little field exercise wnet nicely, although it was absolutely brutal on my body in terms of the sheer amount of walking and hill climbing.

CamelBaks have consistently proved themselves to be worth every penny
Bring more than one flavor of Gatorade
Bring more snack food that can be eaten while walking
CFP-90 backpack worked well. The detachable waist belt was nice for using as a utility/gunbelt when roaming from the base camp
The USMC Combat Tent by Eureka, although a bit heavy, is a nice piece of gear
LED microlights are the way to go for in-tent/around the camp at night
Boonie hats never go out of style..esp. when you dunk them in a cold stream , wring them out and wear them

The assault-weapon ban is poised to expire soon (although not soon enough). If it does get renewed it may get renewd and strengthened to include even more things that have nothing to do with reducing crime. Might be a good time to pick up one or two extra mags and some spare parts…..just in case.

I still maintain that youre going to see an attempt made at election-influencing terrorist actions ala Spain later this year.

  1. No, the CFP is a military surplus pack of some kind. It’s WAY bigger than the TT. I would not have survived carrying it. Not without killing everyone with my whining.

    I have a Petzl Tikka lightweight LED headlamp that I like to use for that sort of thing. At $20 it’s quite a bit more than the LED microlights, but they’re handy as hell in that it leaves your hands free to do other things.

    I just noticed another product they make, the Petzl Tactikka that weighs about 8 grams more, has varying light levels and has a red filter that might prevent spoiling night vision, though I’d really like one that has both white and red LEDs rather than red filter. There are many other manufacturers. I just chose Petzl because they sell ’em where I buy climbing gear and the quality is pretty good.

  3. My experiments with red and white LED lights showed me that you can see better with the combination than with either alone. It’s also nice to be able to use just the red for night vision.

  4. A lot of my friends at Burning Man used this headlamp by Energizer. It has the advantage of being the cheapest one on the market and the ability to switch between white and red. I’ve used it a bit and like it, maybe more than the one that I have.

  5. LED LAMPS

    am perferable to any flashlight as long as batteries are available. ones that use common available like D,C, or AA cells versus trying to find exotic litium coin types, especially in a post disaster enviorment. but then a microlight is like a backup knife, handy when you need it most. A good light be trhe brinkman series avilable at wal#marts which can be also light up with re-chargable cells too. so good to use common cell types for flashlights and battery operated gear for easier stockup and replacements. as for best light at night, try green, red, or orange LED’s for illuminating homehole or watches. 6. Two white and one red are what I used. It seems about right. Good price. I should probably get one.

    I recently picked up some push-button end caps for the 2AA Maglight that work really well, too. They allow click on, click off, and momentary.

  7. Yo Zero;

    I need a little help with choosing an M-4. Would you be so kind as to give me some advice? I know the Colt is the real deal, but aren’t there some good knock-offs around these days? And what about the composite lower reciever models? Are they worth a damn? Should I get a flat top or a removeable h-bar? What about buying a set of upper receivers in say 9mm, 45, 7.62, etc, to go along with the .223 one? Any advice you could toss my way would be most, most appreciated.

    Thanks;
