Officially fall, Ruger Mk….IV?

Well, its officially that time of year. Time to move the winter durvival gear to the vehicle, drag the hunting clothes out, top off the kerosene heaters, switch to the winter camo, and just generally get ready for fimbelwinter.

It also means the election is just around the corner. I genuinely don’t know what to think at this point but you really cannot go wrong with precious metals, food, fuel, guns, and ammo. I mean, all of those are things that are going to go up in price anyway, right? So regardless of who wins the election, or what new policies do or do not occur, you’re still ahead of the game.

Fall in Montana means hunting season is just around the corner. I havent decided what to hunt with but I’m really tempted to take out my 29″ barrel, open-sighted .275 Rigby. It has a classic look to it, and I’m a big fan of the cartridge.

And, speaking of thundertoys, did you guys see Ruger has dropped a new version of their .22 pistol on the market? It’s the Ruger Mk IV….and it has at least one awesomely cool feature that puts it way ahead of the previous models. A feature greatly appreciated by those of us who have had to disassemble one of those things. Read about it at Tam’s blog.

  1. … They made it to field strip and clean?!?!?! INCONCEIVABLE!

(This coming from someone who bought a Mk. III and intentionally ‘broke’ the magazine safety ‘feature’ to make it work more like the Mk. II, because magazines should not be in the same damn room as the firearm when you are disassembling it.)

  2. K. here,

Crap timing for me. I’m trying to unload a nice but unneeded MKIII 22/45 threaded barrel model a with like five mags and the MKIII back to MKII hammer spring bushing swap. The mod is supposed to help magazines slip right out(drop free), allow for easier takedown and cleaning and possibly can reduce failure to feeds.

I prefer the feel of the MK series over the SR series, but the ability of converting the SR 22 10 round mags to 15 round mags with the tandemkross brand wingman magazine bumper and now being able to get the SR with a threaded barrel has pushed me in that direction…

      • I was just commenting off hand not trying to use your blog for my benefit, but… Assuming you can see my email address… I’d be down with entertaining an arrangement if you’d like to hit me up. Full disclosure, I think I posted wrong and it’s actually 4 magazines total, not 4 spare. It is currently on consignment at a LGS. Of course I’d have to find out cost associated with an outbound transfer and shipping. I can’t remember off hand exactly what my guy and I had it priced at either. I don’t know if it would completely offset a “good price” for you on a locally purchased or otherwise ordered gun, or not. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to hammer down the details though, just let me know.

  3. Hunting seasons around the corner? I’ve been bow hunting for the last 3 weeks. I had cows at shooting distance twice, but they showed up 5 minutes after shooting time. And one monster bull I couldn’t get closer than 40 yds, too far for my skill level (first year bow hunting) at this time. At least I know where they are when rifle season starts.
