Paratus 2018 is here!

Happy Paratus, fellow survivalists/preppers/doomsters/bunkerdwellers/anti-government extremists/etc!

Go do something awesomely preparedness-related today. Go buy those mags you’ve been wanting, order up those solar panels, purchase that ICOM radio, get that Burt Gummer tattoo you’ve been wanting….today’s the day you don’t need to justify to anyone why you’re doing what you’re doing. (And that’s actually a trick statement….you should never feel the need to justify all that ammo and freeze drieds to anyone.)

My plans? Head to the range and put some ammo through my Low Impulse Control Mini-14GB to make sure the dumb thing works. After that it’s some time at the reloading bench. Then, a little bookkeeping to see if todays the day I pull the trigger (ahem) on the .338 Lapua that I’ve been lusting for these last couple years.

So…get out there! Get together with your fellow LMI and have a Lenny James marathon of ‘Jericho’ and ‘Walking Dead’, go to the range, order pizza and sit around planning your future off grid bugout locations. And let’s hear about what you did today in the name of preparedness.

But..whatever you do today, make it prep-y!

This post brought to you by The Committee To Advance The Paratus holiday.

ETA: A couple folks dropped some folding money in the tip jar as an act of Paratusian generosity. Much obliged!

  1. Happy Paratus Zero, filling up some buckets and hitting the gym, Stocking bunker shelves a little, so there’s some preppy stuff too lol.

  2. I bought two LCI water cans, CZ scorpion mag and a case of ammo to self celebrate the Paratus holiday. Tonight we shall watch Jericho by candle light and eat a Beef Stew Mountain house meal with a cardboard box of red Merlot wine. Happy Paratus Commander

  3. Happy Paratus! I will ‘postpone’ for one day as there is a nice size “gun show” in town this weekend and I’ll go reward myself by attending the show and finding some great additions to the “stuff” I want/need tomorrow.

  4. Today I put the Primary Arms scope on the .300 BLK upper… that then went on it’s awaitng lower. Just for fun I tarted her up in her “pole dancer clothes”…. bipod, fake suppressor, NVD and drapped on fish net stockings (sniper veil)… then I took all that off and started to determine what day to take her to the range.

  5. I’ll be watching “Night of the Comet.” Cheesy cheerleaders-v-evil-scientists plot, but it has Catherine Mary Stewart saying, “Come on Hector, the MAC-10 submachine gun was practically designed for housewives.”

  6. I put new fiber optic sight rods in the sights on all my muzzle loaders. Noticed some were weak while shooting at Elk last week, Oh ya. the freezer is almost full again!

  7. Got the materials and equipment ready today to double our garden tomorrow.

Power went out for a number of hours today, so we got to practice no water or electric and how our plans work for cooking and entertainment.

And last but not least, we did the proper thing and rotated stock on the stored adult beverages. 🙂 Nothing like some decent bourbon around candle light.

  8. Anxiously awaiting delivery of below spot silver(caught what seems very bottom and got discount($13oz)). Replaced mantles in coleman lantern and local K-mart having closing sale(2pr jeans $9@),stocking up as prices drop. Gifted brother case of canned goods(secret preps for the non-prepper)

  9. Celebrating my first Paratus, as I’m new to your blog.
Received a special gift this week. Months ago, I bought a few raffle tickets from the Multnomah County Republican Party, out here in Oregon.
The chairman called me out of the blue, and said come pick up your new AR-15!
Walked away with a Springfield Saint. Very nice rifle.

  10. I have left OEM Glock mags for prolonged periods of time (a couple years) by accident and had them work just fine. The magpul I can’t say.

Not a hundred percent sure where I am with Glock mags. Though I do need to buy a new tote so there is that.

    • It’s a personal choice, but I put the non-metal-feedlip Magpuls (AR and Glock) as a ‘secondary standard’ sort of tier. Theyre basically my first choice after factory mags.

  11. 3rdman, I got the factory G17 mags because the price different (15vs 18) was negligible. Also for IDPA being able to make sure I loaded 10 via the little holes is handy.

    • I haven’t bought any of the Magpul Glock magazines to date. I just run factory mags for my Glocks currently. Picked up a G19x and love it. I have a ton of Magpul AR magazines though, and love them!!

  12. Purchased a new 300 Blackout AR pistol. Loaded up on AA and AAA Lithium batteries. Also bought 2,000 rounds of .45 ACP.
Any recommendations for a new red dot scope? I’m also looking for solar panels.

    • It depends on what your price range is. I love my Aimpoint PRO, but also really enjoy my Primary Arms Micro and if you have an astigmatism their Cyclops 1x really gives a crisp dot. Guess it just depends on what your price range and application is. Personally I’m starting to switch over to 1-4x etched lens scopes from vortex and primary arms in case batteries are depleted I can still use the scope.

    • I can second jh on the etched scopes from Primary Arms. If you are wanting a simple, rugged red dot with hella battery life I can recommend the MM2 from Hi-Lux. Yes, the name made me cringe when I first saw it was well but I now own two of these little units. I have one mounded on a Sig 5.56 pistol and one on a .300 BLK pistol. Both hold zero after a year of “not soft” treatment (I didn’t set out to beat them around but they are not safe queens, these are the are house guns), I’m still on the 2 year old 2032 batteries and I can confirm they are NV compatible.

  13. Not necessarily to celebrate Paramus but bought 120 Rd’s of Wolf .223 at 8.99/40 rds. Now many of you may say Wolf ammo is shit, but I have shot a fair amount of it thru my various AR’s and never had a single issue- except, it is rather dirty stuff. It’s not my first load in my loaded mags but when you are in a class or at the range and don’t feel like picking up your brass ( I reload ) it works.

  14. Good Afternoon Commander, I celebrated Paratus by getting a government job and watching the movie “Macon County Line”. No kidding. Next year I promise to do better.
