Was up at CostCo and came across these:
A three-pack of what appear to be food grade buckets. I’ve got plenty of buckets on hand these days so I didnt pick any up, but if youre putting stuff away in bulk and need some buckets…it looks like CostCo has you covered. At least, here in this particular one.
What tells you these are food grade on that label
The 2 in a triangle of arrows above the HDPE in the second picture.
I think it’s the NSF #2 standard, National Sanitation Foundation grade 2 means it’s safe for potable water and food. Usually means the release agent from the mold isn’t toxic, non-food grade it is some form of petroleum product.
” NSF/ANSI 2 establishes minimum food protection and sanitation requirements for the materials, design, fabrication, construction and performance of food handling and processing equipment (such as bakery, cafeteria, kitchen and pantry units) and other food handling and processing equipment (such as tables and components…”
A 3 pack was $10 at my local Costco, but I didn’t see any lids.
my costco here in ft worth sucks…they never have the stuff you post CZ and i was just there today…i did pick up a life straw at the wally world today though for $10…if there are any left next week i’m going to grab a couple more…
I bet the CostCos in Utah have some epic preparedness stuff
Number One on my bucket list –
I hope I never NEED a bucket list…
NSF Standard #2 covers food equipment, if the bucket was made to that standard then it is food grade.
A simple 5 gal. plastic bucket. What a great prep item, with a lid even better. Got them stacked floor to ceiling in the bunker room. Waterproof storage for most anything, food, water, ammo, rope, clothes, tools, med supplies, fire tinder, etc. Strong enough to sit on. Toilet seats available, throw in some trash bags and a bag of peat and it makes a temporary composting toilet.
Thanks All, for the info
Never joined Costco or Sams, even when we lived in the city. Bought most of my buckets years ago at Tractor Supply – they now want $5 a piece so that Costco price seems a good deal. Strongly prefer the EZ lids; actually found some years ago at Winco in DFW. Fwiw, got a pack of five from Amazon back in 2022 for $58 and now they are $52.
