Gradually and then all at once

The brother of a coworker died last month and would I be interested in some gun stuff?

Thats how I get in trouble. But, I couldn’t say no. I won’t get into too many details about how many guns I got (cough*ten*cough), but the Beta Site now has a dedicated Marlin .45-70 (Pre-Rem) to keep around in case the bears decide that my place on the food chain needs reassessment. Or an elk decides to munch on the vegetable garden. I mean..y’know…once the place actually gets built.

(My usual bear-repellent, in longarms, is the PTR-91 with a mag full of soft-points.)

  1. Curiosity asks: what did the relative have?
I’m guessing the brother wasn’t a gun type then? I see that a lot in families anymore and its sad. You spend a lifetime getting this stuff and none wants it at the end.
Had a neighbor die last year. We were out of town 4 wheeling Utah, got back and heard about it, 10 days later. I knew his family weren’t gunners so I told him he needed to make plans for them to go to others or donate to a range or do a auctions to raise money for some gun group for kids shooting or something. Or fucking call me to bring my truck with cash in hand. But I guess he never did, he died suddenly and the family quickly turned his collection into a gun buy back and got a couple hundred dollars in gift cards. I kinda when nuts on them when I stopped in while they were cleaning out the house, That collection was worth well north of $35K and they just spit in his eye. They kept his truck but traded in an MINT condition 69 Chevelle SS 396 at a local we buy cars dealer for a few thousand. I helped him rebuild that a few years ago and always figured I would buy it and keep it for my grandsons since none his useless family were car guys either and i knew what the car was worth money wise and emotion wise for car guys and for Lenny himself and he knew my grandson loved that car. My wife barely got me out of there without bloodshed.
Moral of the story DON’T put off till later also having a plan for your stuff after you are gone, not just for preparedness items for SHTF.

      • What should bother you is a grown ass man that hasn’t learned to mind his own business. How Lennys family settles his estate is none of anyone’s concern but theirs. Lucky he did not get a well deserved ass kicking.

    • That’s the story with most of boomers and their stuff…You will have to pry it out of their cold dead hands to be sold at pennies on the dollar…We had a guy up here that was mentioned on this blog that died and his kids didn’t want anything so stuff was sold way under what it was worth to Traders Brothers who sold it piecemeal…Such a joke but will be what happens to most preppers stuff…

  2. You didn’t go wrong choosing that Marlin. In wild areas where large furry creatures armed with teeth and claws that eat meat are, having a firearm dedicated to protect yourself is intelligence. Cause you just never know for sure.

IcyR7, that is quite a story but I can see that happening. People who aren’t part of the culture don’t understand the value of what is collected by their loved ones. Perhaps he should have taken a few of them aside at the time and explained how much he enjoyed them and their FUTURE VALUE so that others know the true value.

  3. I keep an itemized list of my assets and their current value for this very reason. Along with the list are a few trusted contacts to help with the liquidation after my death.

      • Exactly what Nurse said. My sons know the truth and wont let that happen.
Especially the NVG’s I recently got for a song i said. No, L3 is the cheapest of the tubes and I got the military discount, honey…..

  4. To answer a couple questions.I don’t use the terms democrats anymore or progressives or liberals. I don’t put up with endless debates on levels/types of communists. If they vote and support all this crap then they are commies, end of debate.
But yes you guessed it, woke retards. I thought he had talked to them about his wishes and maybe they just said what he wanted to hear. I and a couple guys tried to get him to decide things now and if they wont go along appoint a executor but like so many others he put it off. BTW, He got multiple COVID jabs during the plandemic due to family wouldn’t let him around without them (and he died suddenly, heart issue out of nowhere, anything sound familiar here). My answer was fuck them when I heard it but all he had then was his family after wife died. He was reluctant to accept the truth. But that was his decision good or bad. My point is you need to plan what you want done with ALL this stuff we collect for planning purposes. To keep putting off after death planning till later or just leaving it up to family who may or may not have your beliefs doesn’t work unless your lifetime of preparedness doesn’t really matter to you once you are dead. This has changed a lot of his friends thoughts on this. Multiple POA’s, Wills and trusts and conversations with family got changed within months after we watched all this. And honestly, Me included.

    Rest in Peace Lenny.
