Norwegians told to prepare for wartime property seizures

More news that could, by some folks, be interpreted as a sign something is coming….

Norway has issued thousands of letters to citizens warning that the army may have to seize their homes and vehicles if war breaks out with Russia.

Norwegian military officials said the letters were an advance warning to those with assets that may need to be requisitioned.

The requisition policy covers vehicles, boats, machinery and property, and around 13,500 “preparatory requisitions” were issued on Monday, valid for one year.

Another fine reason to try and keep as low a profile as possible. It doesn’t have to be a nuclear war for .gov to come by and seize your lawfully held private property. Sometimes poorly-prepared local governments will pull that stunt: 1, 2, 3

I’ve spent the last half hour trying to find it, but somewhere on the blog I had a post to an article about a sporting goods shop in NY being broken into by first responders who broke into it to take supplies that they felt they needed. Of course, it was perfectly justified by the local .gov.

Moral of the story is that what .gov (local or national) doesn’t know about your stockpile won’t hurt ’em.

  1. There are many stories of heavy equipment, trailers, fuel, etc being taken by cops and responders during and after Katrina.

I suggest having a hidden kill switch on things like that so if someone wants it, they can’t just drive it off.
Of course, storing it out of sight helps also – they won’t ask for what they don’t know about.
Joe Huffman’s article about “everybody” knowing about his bunker in Idaho is a warning to us all.

  2. my last couple years in service i was an emergency/deployment logistics nco. i was trained on a computer system that could look inside every major and many minor suppliers systems to find what i needed. this included prior sales to individuals, names/addresses. they know…almost…everything.

  3. During a bank robbery in Los Angeles, the LAPD availed themselves of some rifles from a local gunshop.

No waiting period – after all, they didn’t pay for them. The gunshop did not get them back, IIRC, at least not in a timely manner.

    • They did eventually get them back and as I understand it, the guns were documented as having been used in the shootout and auctioned off at a fundraiser for some cause.

  4. Many years ago during the Kalifornia North Hollywood bank robbery and shootout, a gun shop gave AR-15s, mags and ammo to the police because they only had 38s and shotguns. The store was later put out of business because they didn’t perform a background check and wait 10 days before releasing the firearms. No good deed…

  5. Things are potentially going to get sticky in the future around the Scandinavian region. It isn’t a coincidence that Trump wants the US to control Greenland–it’s highly strategic in terms of world geography and protecting rare earth minerals from our enemies. Trump is making moves that suggest he knows or has reason to suspect that a hot war (or at least a REAL cold war) is on the not-too-distant horizon. If there is a hot war, it will be on the scale of another World War. All of us should be planning accordingly.

    • I agree that it could be argued that some of his WTF moves, such as Greenland, could be construed as “He knows something we don’t” sort of positioning.

      • Taking back the Panama Canal denies our enemies a key strategic route. Securing Venezuela denies our enemies a key source of oil. Greenland has fresh water, uranium, and other valuable rare minerals which are critical to our economy and which mineral supply chains that China otherwise controls. Greenland is also key to protecting the Northwest Passage. Denmark has been selling access to these resources to China, so if our pressure campaign to “buy” Greenland from Denmark at least results in them cutting ties with China in order to be left alone by us, that is itself a win.

        • Love how you can rationalize theft and belligerent actions but decry if anyone did it in the past. When do we apologize to Nazi Germany for attacking them when they were just protecting themselves or Imperial Japan when they were just securing the natural resources they need for the Greater Prosperity Sphere or North Korea as they sought to reunite their divided homeland? Why shouldn’t Iran not secured their natural resources from British Petroleum as they tried to steal them but murdered the Democratically Elected President in a coup or Iraq when it tried to sell it’s OIL for gold instead of US DOLLARS or Libya when it tried to sell oil outside of US dollar system. Quite a bit of hypocrisy.,arrogance and low order thinking to arrive at that point

        • We had 30 bases there but abandoned them. If we wanted to lease them again it would be easy and cheap but another waste of money for something that will never work for outdated technology that doesn’t exist is MIC THEFT to cover up and distract for the Strategic Pedophile Shield and to Protect his FOREIGN AGENT OWNERS. STOP AIDING AND ABETTING PEDOPHILES AND FOREIGN AGENTS

Peter Peter fellates the pedophile leader.
He takes every flaccid thrust with a gleam in his eye

  6. 100% correct about the sporting goods store “CONFISCATION” >>>>

in New Jersey during Storm Sandy – mixed bag of local PDS – FEDs and FEMA busted the entire front entrance all to hell >>> started hauling off EVERYTHING & ANYTHING – sporting goods – high school cases of jerseys & uniforms – taking war memorabilia off the walls – busted into the store office and stole equipment – tried to break into the safe – rifled the file cabinets & bookkeeping >>> LOOTERS !!!!!!!!!!!

the store owner arrived as the break in & looting first started – he was PD detained in the back of a squad car that was removed from the area >>> NO WITNESSES

all agencies refused to cooperate in the insurance investigation >>> nobody knew anything…..

  7. I’d argue that what .gov doesn’t know about your stockpile won’t hurt You.

Vehicles, boats and heavy machinery are easy pickings for the .gov, hidden kill switches may work to keep your stuff yours. As far as property goes, the best bet is to be poorly located.

In this era of Big Brother, building a stockpile should be done carefully. Buying with cash, home canning, and incremental purchases make sense, as well as having good places to stash that stockpile.

    • in regard to disabling equipment >>> if the SHTF was bad enough – I wouldn’t want to be around or be able to be found – certain elements of the GOV wouldn’t stop with a simple denial – if there’s already piles of dead from the SHTF – few more bodies added to the pile becomes a real threat …….

If you can’t take anything, you won’t get anything, and if you can’t hold anything, you won’t keep anything. And you can’t take anything without organization.” J. Phillip Randolf

When I was out hunting in my ’69 Bronco back in the day, I would take the wire with me that connected the distributor to the coil while I was in the field. Unless someone was pretty well versed in old autos, no one was driving off with it. In the past the SHOT show used to require all firearms to have the firing pins removed. There are some simple solutions to simple theft but if they really want it they are going to get it.

  9. 1. I’m a company XO in the Norwegian National Guard equivalent. Since the end of WW2 every government has planned to requisition stuff needed in case of a all out war. This is nothing new. At least not to us over in Europe. My company log on to a database and pre-requisition office space, tractors, busses etc. We also requisition the cars the officers and men are expecting to drive to the base in. This way the owner gets a iou, the value of the car is documented and after a crisis the owner can be compensated. Having firearms etc that the government does not know of is of great value. My ancestors made Stenguns under German occupation in the 40’s. But this is to help Norway not be occupied and needing to make Stenguns in basements.

    2. The US vacated all but one bases on Greenland. You gave up most of your bases. If you want you can get them back. Just ask. There are no Chinese sneaking up on you. No deals being made. The only purpose of this Greenland stuff is to drag you into a conflict that aims to dissolve NATO. And remember, YOU made NATO. You did it to “keep the Germans down, Russians out and the US in”. Giving up the World Island to spite Europe?! Its like the romans pulling out of Britain to spite the Persians!! It makes absolutely no sense.

Except for our common adversaries. Think about it…

Europe is a bit weird right now and has messed up priorities, but we are family. And family shouldn’t fight like this. We even backed you up when you invaded Iraq for Christ sake..

Power corrupts. People that desire power are not to be trusted. But not having a political system that concentrates some power becomes a weakness and will lead to outsiders exploiting it.

      • I will guess that you never served in any armed force…

We are preparing to fight together. Do you think I would deny one of my men the use of my car to perform the taks I ask of him?! I think you are unable to comprehend the bond and cohesion among men expecting to fight together. The difference between theft and requisitioning makes a lot of difference to a widow or man after the fighting is done.

“Yeah, well the Nazis won the war and my country is a dictatorship now, but at least I got to keep my car…”

  10. There’s a running joke with all of the contractors up here in our little corner of ID about how they know where all the good stuff is stored because they built, wired, plumbed, and painted all the “secret” infrastructure. If TSHTF, they would know exactly where to go to pillage.
