Start the clock

Well, since there’s no $200 tax to ‘make’ and SBR these days (Form 1) I took an hour, a ton of photos, and sent in the eForm1 to SBR one of my PTR MP5 clones, Ruger PC Charger 9mm, Group Industries Uzi, and my Action Arms Uzi. Because.

As much as I despise ATFE with a hatred that could fuel a large city, I have to very reluctantly admit that those fundaments did a fairly decent job with their website. It was about 10-15 minutes per gun, including taking pictures, but all in all it was relatively simple. Because of my FFL/SOT I didnt have to do the fingerprinting, CLEO sign off, or any of that stuff. Last time I did this was a few years ago and I think it took about 49 days to get the paperwork back. We shall see how  it goes this time.

  1. I understand the argument of following the law if it’s easy, affordable, and accessible. I teach my kids risk-management in the same style (don’t go to the party where that one house always gets busted). OTOH, I am also aware of the argument for ignoring illegal laws as a means of protest. No, I don’t want to go to jail for an SBR violation either, but by complying with the law we find repugnant, is that not the same as giving up, giving in? You’ve registered yourself on a list (granted, you were already on it, so there’s another reason not-to-comply).
But as history buffs, isn’t this always how it goes? 10,000 little seemingly harmless infractions that ultimately lead up to an untenable situation?

    • If I used the metric of ‘I dont like this law so I will not comply with it’ I’d never get anything done. As far as risk-management goes, I’d rather have the short barreled Uzi in the rack behind the drivers seat of my truck when some idiots experience Sudden Jihad Syndrome at WalMart than to not have it because I disagreed with the vetting process. The unfortunate facts are that, in my world anyway, there are some things I disagree with that I can put up with, and some that I disagree with and will not work with. In this case, I don’t think the NFA rules are necessary but refusing to go along with them means a) jail, b) permanent loss of all my guns, NFA and non, and c) not having the specialized NFA guns that I felt I needed to begin with.

  2. Took me 5 days for approval on my suppressor that I submitted on January 3rd of this year. Big change from 2016 and a SBR purchase that took just shy of a year to get approval.

    • Said the Chief Justice who used that opinion to seize power for the judiciary that the Constitution did not spell out.
Ever since the liberty of the people have been held in contempt by all three branches of government.

  3. When Communist Party-D takes control of House, Senate and Presidency I wonder how high they will make the new tax to replace the zero that replaced the $200 tax?
And will they declare it be retroactive to cover all NFA zero tax stamps?

I really got to get working on suppressor and SBR forms.
