  1. Yeah, what these others posted, underground is the way to go. Even if you have to rent one of those towable compressor and jackhammer set ups to bust rock beds or whatever, that initial first constructing and planning efforts will be well worth it before even laying floors, walls etc. Even spending a whole summer digging a hole in the ground or into hillsides and waiting until the next season to actually build a structure or whatever would be wise. It is good those cameras and periodic recon visits let you assess the snow yields there, and you can Roman engineer drainage, roads or access etc before you even think about structures etc. The fun is yet to begin.

  2. I disagree with folks that suggest living underground. The temperature may be constant, but given the location it will be 40F plus or minus 5. That’s good for storing stuff, but chilly for living in. How is our host going to enjoy his ladies if everyone is bundled up all the time? In addition, the walls would be damp just with condensation from breathing.
A standard building designed for the climate and heated with wood would be much more comfortable (and dry).

  3. The temp will be between 50 and 60 degrees year round and the walls will be dry if you build it correctly… When he is there he can heat it with a wood stove to bring it up to whatever temp he wants quickly… Underground is the way to go for security, storage, and sustainability if he is not going to be living up there full time…Then when/it he.decides too he can build a structure on top of it…
