A sign of the times

So just how hard is it to get guns from vendors? RSR is a pretty big distributor. Here’s the results when I told it to show me all the handguns the list in their inventory:

And then when I said to show me only the ones that are actually in stock:

2,670 items normally carried, 55 in stock. In other words, they are about 98% out of stock on varieties of handguns.

That’s just one vendor. You can’t really draw any conclusions from a sample size of one. However…it’s not far from the same situation at most other larger wholesalers and distributors.

Glad you bought when you did, right?

  1. CZ-
Very much the same on vendors throughout. Encountering that they are holding off on dealer accounts to supply the online sales first. So many people are resorting to buying “at cost”. Sucks for them. Been working a lot of Eastern block rifles so easy to get parts if needed. I actually saw a S&W MPII going for 1200.00. Unreal.

  2. One of the local gun shops, bought 1 million rounds of 9mm in May, is now only selling one box at a time, two if you buy one of the few hand guns, they still have available.
Man I know who works there, sold his sig556 for $1300, with out diopter rear sight, which he got $400 on e-bay.
Yes, aren’t you glad you bought earlier, one thing mag’s are still available.

  3. I’m an FFL in Texas. Can’t get any new AR’s, AK’s, Glocks or most other desirable pistols. I am selling a lot of consignment guns at higher prices then usual. I believe this is all a cycle and will pass after the election if Trump wins. I am buying tactical shotguns and lever action rifles now. That is your best bet if Biden wins.

    • Biden wins nothing will be safe,be prepared for the battering ram through your front door-Waco Style.

  4. Just looked at the same thing on Zanders – 2022 pistols listed – 40 models available, with most of those being .22.

      • Make your own, super easy to do. Stack 4 used tires and get a cover (I use an old water heater overflow pan) start layering lawn clipping, leaves, and food scraps (no proteins or dairy) horse manure etc (no cat droppings). Turn occasionally to oxygenate (won’t decompose without O2). Keep at it all year, in the spring you’ll have the best compost you ever saw. Enough for a backyard garden.

Don’t be alarmed by a bunch of grubs and bugs. They’re helping transform it all. It’ll produce a lot of heat so expect it to steam in cold weather.

        Regards

  5. Maybe a it’s time to buy a Tokarev or two, from Classic or Guns Int. I never was interested before because the odd ball 7.62×25 Ammunition was hard to get, but they are cheap and plentiful enough, and as they are C and R they can be shipped direct, and the Toke ammo is probably as available as anything else at this point

  6. Last Saturday at the Birmingham (AL) GS (you WERE there weren’t you JDub?) business was swift, there were a lot of bring ins sold for extra cash, LOTS of handguns going out, (I saw one vendor who had, I kid you not, 10(!) people waiting with 4473s) and ammo moving swiftly (even at Gun Show ammo prices). I was only there for a few hours but managed to find a few things to round out supplies and some nice Hardigg goodness to store more supplies. (A C-More CRW Railway sight for $150? Yes please…) But that Springfield Officer’s 1911 in 45acp for $475 was miiiiiiiiiighty tempting. I should have got it and just flipped it just before the election. LOTS of wheel guns for sale… not sure if that is a regional thing… but if seems heavier than usual with wheel guns.

As Navionpa said, mags were all over the place there with not much markup. Oh sure there was the guy with the barrel of USGI surplus mags for $15-20 each (and boy were they surplus…) but he wasn’t getting much business.

Intriguing was the guy who had everything for a M249 (and nothing else on his table) … but a trigger pack and a receiver. (Yes, spare barrels) I didn’t even bother asking what!? how!?

  7. Ammunition Depot had 7.62 in stock in case quantities with a couple of manufacturer choices as of 20 minutes ago…. ~27c/rd

  8. Went to a gun auction sunday and people were bidding like crazy anything AR/ tatical. Newer handguns were also going for top dollar. Some of the older stuff was reasonable. I picked up a late 60’s early 70’s M1 carbine in exellent shape with 15 magazines (15 and 30 rd) for $400. (just because)
