Scenes from CostCo

Hmmm. A package of four Lifestraws for $35. That’s..uhm…carry the one….$8.75 ea. Thats not a terrible deal for something that you should have in your truck, go-bag, hunting pack, and elsewhere. My local CostCo also had some Goal0 stuff, but I was more interested in the deal on the LifeStraws. If I didnt already have a dozen of these I might pick up a package of these to use as Paratus gifts.

  1. I picked up a pack at my local CostCo, mostly because while I know I have some, I don’t know where they are. Organization is the biggest thing I need to work on right now, hopefully while moving into the new place I’ll get that fixed.

  2. I like the portability of the lifestraw, and have one in my bag, but before anyone bets their life on it give one a try. Here in the desert, where a quart an hour of water isn’t out of reason, the lifestraw is unwieldy, cumbersome and just down right hard to use.

The gravity fed Katadyn is a much better choice. I have both!

  3. If you attach some hoses and prime it, can a LifeStraw be used as an inline gravity filter? I realize I could probably find an answer on their website, but we all know that sometimes claims made on a website turn out to be wrong, or at least not totally true. Any LifeStraw users out there who can actually speak to whether it’ll work via gravity feed? My guess is that it requires more pressure/vacuum than just a 4-5 foot drop from the source bucket.

    • I’d look at getting a Sawyer Mini Water Filtration System it does not cost a lot more.

  4. I like the Life Straw bottle cap that works on both size water bottles. The cap has a water filter and simply screws on. I have several 48 oz Nalgene water bottles with the filter cap.

As far as the straw, pretty useless. I will not kneel down in the mud reaching out to try and suck water in the little filter.

The Life Straw Mission gravity filter with a 12 liter bag, will filter down to .01 Micron which means it will filter out viruses.

  5. I looked all over my local Costco. I found no LifeStraws. As I live in Southern California, maybe it’s because we currently have no ground water to filter. 🙂

  6. Commander:
I am horrified to be proved right –
I said that if the west didn’t have the stones to get Russia to leave Ukraine it would prove to China that it would be safe to threaten Taiwan.
    Gutlessness has its own rewards!

    • China seemed to be losing their shit over an 82 year old woman landing in Taiwan, what are they afraid of if the US is so impotent?

      • They know Nancy is the world’s greatest stock picker and a move by her could be dangerous to them(options to the moon!)

      • Jimbo:
China are now in the mood to say that everything north of Tazmania is theirs!
In truth there shouldn’t be “One China” until the end of Communism…

  7. We have Sam’s Club in my area. They don’t have the 4 pack like your Costco does, but they do have a 3 pack with a carrying case (sort of like a case your sunglasses would go in) for $19.91. That’s even cheaper per unit. Thanks for the idea. LMI’s will be getting one in their Paratus stockings this year!
