Followup – Article – An AR-15 ammunition factory built to supply the military shifted to commercial sales and is now tied to more than a dozen mass shootings

An agreement between the Army and one of the nation’s largest ammunition manufacturers is receiving new scrutiny because of a little-known provision allowing a government facility to produce hundreds of millions of rounds for the retail market.

Over more than a decade, contracts between the Pentagon and a series of private companies have permitted an Army site, the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, to become one of the world’s largest commercial suppliers of cartridges for AR-15-style guns.

The usual statements, from the usual people, about the usual ‘solution’. The free market abhors a vacuum, and while any departure from the 5.56 ammo market will eventually be filled it would be unreasonable to not expect economic law to occur in the short term: when supply is low and demand is high, prices go…up.

No one has enough ammo. More is, by and large, always better. Unless you’re swimming or on fire you cannot have too much ammo. The savvy survivalist, if they don’t already have a goodly amount of the stuff, should take this as a warning that there may be some changes coming up in the market and prepare accordingly.

  1. i’m already at the point that i can’t shoot it all and i can’t take it all with me if i had to leave. i’m just hanging on to it in case i need to resupply the guerillas.

  2. Concur. I think Folks should just square their jaws up and take it as a challenge. Every cyclical wave of pearl clutcher news articles that nit picks on a politically targeted gun or other product should have an immediate shock troop level of response or rebuttal. Fill digital inboxes, and heat up social media immediately so as to initiate momentum to your side. Release the hounds. Protest with your federal reserve notes and support embattled entities. (Goya foods boss caught flak for speaking truth to power, went and filled a cart with Goya products normally used, the cookies were good too!) Journalists Bad mouth my ammo company, whelp, the brown truck will then deliver an order of that maligned product to my porch. Gonna pad the order up with other brands and calibers for good measure. Just to be a good sport and all, going out shooting, bigly, just because. Many “games” take two players, go pro and play to win at their own game.
Put the game face on and stay frosty.

    • A little bit of “talking up” when you patronize someone can have exponential effects-let them know you are supporting them for that particular reason and they will/should notice and know who their loyal customers are.

  3. I mentioned in regards to the previous article that having a warm production base makes it easier to ramp up production if needed for military usage. But also, if the amount being produced is already enough for the military, then shifting who it is delivered to is easy with no disruption to the workforce or supply chains, Easy to do when the product is suitable for the commercial market, not so easy to do when the military is the only market and they really don’t need the product very often, Looks like politicians want to figuratively shoot the nation in the foot again,

  4. How much ammunition should you stock? That’s one of those questions that ranks right up there with 9mm vs 45ACP, Pro-Choice or Pro-Life, and which religion is best. The short answer is as previously stated you can’t have too much.

Each person has to choose for themselves and look at the equation of beans + bullets + band-aids + ………. = PREPARED. As I’ve moved into the woods I feel decent with how much ammo I have put away and are focusing on things I do NOT feel good about present inventory levels. If you’ve prioritized ammunition but have no food – no better time than right now to fix that.

  5. My late shooting/hunting partner and wife, bless her soul, was an Army Intelligence major. Her take on this was that if we get into an honest kinetic situation, the folks we cause to be KIA in whatever pattern camo they wear will be our immediate supply point. She was a firm advocate of having multiple arms in whatever caliber those folks carried. The other side of that coin is we may never even get to the bottom of our first mag before we’re in the same situation. Go Gray Man, stock up on what you can that’s available to keep you alive for the long haul, and listen more than you speak. Gray Fox

  6. Amy time over the last 40 years I’ve found the ammo I use for sale cheap.
I add to my supply. Today, I have no worries on having too little. My three
sons will be well supplied also when I depart…………
