Article – Yellen Asked to Probe Issues in an Ammunition Maker’s Sale

Typical government BS….theyl’ll let municipalities and individuals bring huge lawsuits against ammo companies because, well, because…but then when some outside company wants to buy that same ammo company all of a sudden its a national defense issue.

The concerns involve the sale of Vista Outdoor’s ammunition business to the holding company Czechoslovak Group, or CSG, which Higgins said would weaken national security if the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US, or Cfius, approves the sale.

The Louisiana Republican said in a letter that the sale of Vista Sporting Products to CSG would result in the firm controlling “nearly 70% of production capacity for primers in the Western world.” Primers are the component of a bullet that ignites the charge, sending the projectile down the barrel of a pistol or rifle.

This started, I think, with Macnamara back in the 60’s/70’s who felt that closing down government owned facilities and farming it out to private industry made more sense. I have boxes of Springfield Armory and Rock Island Armory primers and bullets from the 1940’s. Yes youngsters, there was a time Uncle Sam made his boomtoys himself. Sure, some of it got farmed out too (Rockola M1 Carbines, Winchester 1903’s, etc.) but it used to be the US had government facilites for churning out this sort of thing.

I am extremely opposed to the nationalization of any industrial concern, but I’m not opposed to government building its own production facility to meet its needs. And, really, if Uncle Sam is really that concerned about this issue, they can reach into their bottomless pockets and just buy the whole business lock, stock, and barrel making facility.

I also find it interesting that Janet Yellen, she of ‘temporary inflation’ fame, is sounding the call on this issue.

  1. Maybe the real reason she is concerned is that her masters would rather those companies go under than be sold to anybody.
If that happened, ammo would be expensive and hard to get, making guns a moot point.

  2. I would hate to have Dementia Joe or the like controlling that much of the ammo supply. Nixing the deal will probably mean that another purchaser will step forward, although the price the purchaser is willing to pay will be less.

So be it. That would be a small penalty for snapping up so much of the ammo production to begin with.

  3. The real bad guys are corporate CEO’s who only think of one thing, money, and if selling out the USA will get them more money, then that’s what they will do.

    • Jimbo:
If it was ALL about money, they would make and sell every batch they could make.
I suspect this reduction is being forced on them from Washington.

      Ceejay

  4. Janet Yellin is a true worthless bureaucrat. She was a lousy Fed chair under the Kenyan. And she is even more worthless as Secretary of the Treasury.
All this ammo shortage crap started under Obama when his Secretary of State began to limit the amount of ammo that could be imported on a single import certificate. We went from billions of rounds per months to a few million. That would be the Hildabeast
And now the idiot VP under the Kenyan is picking up where the Kenyan left off.
It’s the same CommieLibs. Pressing the same leftist bilge water. Many of Shitty Britches losers were third string operators under the Obama Junta.
It’s about to get real. Watch what happens in October. A huge scandal will break. It will be about election integrity. Old Dummy will inform America that he cannot be sure the election will be secure so he is canceling it. Sound familiar.
    Be ready. Be prepared.
As the regime continues to lose in the courts they will become more desperate. Until there is but one thing to do.

  5. I have still got ammo from the Minneapolis Saint Paul Ammunition Plant. THe DOD industrial base is in terrible shape. Stockpiles of critical raw materials are non-existent, let alone the industrial base to use them. THe US is even looking at outsourcing it’s Naval ship building to overseas companies. What a mess!

    • Yeah. Cause old Jomentia is giving all the ammo away to Hamas to fight Israel. Plus he has idiots running everything from the Pentagon all the way down the supply chain. Things are so bad in the day to day military they are seriously thinking of the retiree recall provision that’s normally only used in time of war. Hey. Maybe Old Jomentia will start a war with Fidelito Trudue in Canukistan. Then they can both get rich. And remember. Ukraine is nothing more then a huge money laundering scheme.

  7. I saw an article on seeking alpha this week that Colt was selling their stake in vista outdoors since their takeover offer was refused. Ironically enough the Czechs own them now too.

I looked up CSR and looks like they own a lot of Ammo and defense companies. Most notably was Fiocchi.
