More Tapco

I’d picked up a couple Mini-14s over the course of the year and that means that the mag:gun ratio shifted unfavorably after each purchase. Whats that mean for the savvy survivalist? Duh..it means buy more mags:

I stumbled across these Tapco Gen2 mags on Gunbroker and made a deal to take all the guy had. I’ve posted about these mags before and I recommend them. Even the Ruger factory mags arent always 100%….the 20-rd mags work flawlessly but the 30’s sometimes fail to feed reliably. These Tapcos (and the Eagles) seem to work more reliably than the Ruger OEM…and theyre usually cheaper (when you can find them).

As I’ve said, the Mini-14 isn’t even a tertiary level of backup around here but despite that, it doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a decent mag supply on hand for them.

  1. Following. Smart move commander. The mini 14 has it’s commonality attribute of being chambered up in the same caliber as the more prolific ar-15 fan boy base. It is suitable and practical for quite a few folks that have or use them. Not everybody needs to larp as an operator with plates, helmets, chest racks -o- magazines, handgun attached, ka-bar knife sticking out, medical blow out kit, zip ties and restraints, gas masks etc etc. To go with their ar-15 poses in the mirror photos for social media postings. Having just a utilitarian long gun in hand or in reach will suffice. The roof Koreans used their Daewoo rifles (same caliber, kills just as good) to keep scumbags away during spicy occurances. Keep up the good work, and stay frosty out there.

    • A Mini-14 does everything an AR does.
Just less accurately, less reliably, and more expensively.
      They do look cool/innocuous, though.

  2. Here in the peoples republic of NY you can’t own an AR with all the normal furniture legally. And their supposed to be registered. The mini does the same thing with no mention of any of the above registration. I keep mine as a utv close quarters gun since it doesn’t draw much attention plus I make sure there’s only 7 bullets in it 😉

    • Nope. I know the Ruger American rifle in 7.62×39 takes Mini-30 mags and you can buy a third-party magwell adapter to let you use AK mags, but for use in a Mini-30 as far as I know the best choice is still the factoryu mags.
