You know you’re in trouble when the gun shop starts calling you. I had told the guy at the gun shop that I was always interested in any HiPowers that came in. And, today, I got the call.
Its an early MkIII (forged frame) in the box, came with six mags, mag pouch, and a Lula mag loader. Although I carry a Glock, and have had some interesting times with them, the HiPower is my favorite 9mm pistol.
Not content to spend money on just one gun, I made the mistake of asking about another gun that I’d had my eye on. A ‘used’ Angstadt 9mm AR pistol. Used is in quotes because even if a gun is 100% unfired and NIB, if it came from someone selling it and not from the factory/distributor it is considered used. I don’t make the rules.
I already have an Angstadt carbine and think it is an outstanding gun. Unlike many 9mm carbines that take Glock mags, this one locks back on empty. Technically a pistol with an arm brace (eyeroll) this little compact guy is handy. Doesnt do anything my Uzi or MP5s dont do, but it does it with compatability with my Glock mags/drums.
It was supposed to be a simple trip to the gun store while on my lunch break to pick up a HiPower and this is what happens…..
I take it you have not been to any GA meetings lately????

By now not one person at your work is going to be shocked by you getting this kind of call, in fact if you don’t get one or more every few months I’m sure they will start commenting on it.
Have you had any experience with the Springfield HiPower clone?
Nope. I hear that the new ones are good, but I also hear they are actually made in Turkey, which is a turnoff for me.
I’ve got one. It’s got a great trigger. I aced our dept qualification course with it. It’s gone to the gunsmith for an ambi safety as I’m a lefty.
“…simple trip to the gun store…” ROFLOL! Been there, done that.
Snagged one of those Springfield SA-35s a while back. Love it; aside from the trigger reset.
Want to get one of the Hungarian ones too!
My only Hi-Power is one of the Argentinian contract pistols made in the early 1990’s. A licensed copy from FM, and has the original half moon front sight and spurred hammer. Its a good plinker, but does not demonstrate great accuracy. I blame the sights, as my old eyes do not pick them up as easily as when I was younger.
Is this one of the “Made in Belgium”. “Assembled in Portugal” ones? Not sure why they did that, but that is how mine is marked. To me, my CZ-75 feels the same and is my go to gun.
Yup. I have two “All Belgian” HiPowers and this one is a Assembled in Portugal one. No real quality difference. THe parts are made by FN and just assembled in Portugal. I’d imagine labor is cheaper. I prefer the All Belgian guns but I don’t have any qualms about these.
Congratulations! I always enjoy the call from my dealer that starts….. “You were looking for…. right?
Enjoying your posts. Best wishes on the journey.
Very nice, love the Brownies!! Anything new with the one you had redone that was underwater? My son has an Angstadt Arms and loves his! Gifted him a few of my Glock 33rd sticks for it. Enjoy the Beta site and stay well!!
