Diggy diggy hole

Tucked away in my one man combat tent, exhausted, but I know you guys all wanna know how it went. So far, other than a flat tire getting here, it’s been mostly on the good side. Details tomorrow, if the bears don’t eat me.

  1. I never tire of your updates as they give impetus to my own meager efforts. Well done young man (I’m closing in on 72 years old but still train for Der Tag). Crack on!

    • I agree Don! I too still draw inspiration from the Commander even though 85 is tapping me on the shoulder. We’ll never quit!

      • You humble me sir. We must stand fast to the end no matter what or when that may be. Keep you rpowder dry.

  2. CZ. helpful hint RE. bears, they are highly attracted to RED/YELLOW & ORANGE in that order. NOT COLOR BLIND in any way shape or form. gas & diesel cans are a target for sure, ask any logger & since they are all plastic now they do not stand up well to teeth. you are more likely to get beat up by an elk than a bear. hit me up when you get back. CHEERS DAN

      • But it’s Montana, man. Everyone knows there’s a giant ma griz and her cubs behind every pebble!
In all the time I’ve spent out and about in Montana, outside the parks I’ve seen three bears. A black that was beating feet out of there as soon as it saw me, a grizzly that was eating a long-dead elk, and a little bear that my buddy shot and killed. I’m far more worried about moose (and I’ve seen waaaaaay more in CZ’s general area) than bear.

        • I live on Flathead Lake. The most dangerous animals around (after people, of course) are various deer and elk.

But I’ve seen black bear on my property and grizzley nearby in the mountains

        • Moose will f you up.

Saw a moose flip a Subaru on the Alcan once. People don’t realize how huge and powerful they are. Had a Major lose most of his dog team to a pissed off moose.

Bears get the headlines but moose do damage and there are a lot more of them than bears.

  3. I realize “Everyone” is aware of this…
But I mention it as a friendly reminder…
As we all get either lax, or forgetful…
Suspend your food, and away from your camp…
Also, as an after thought you might consider perimeter alarms for all the obvious reasons… bears too…
I’ve seen military systems for sale of the viet nam era…
Surely, there are others available which have been severely updated, improved, and easier to use and lighter to pack…
When you’re out in the backwoods, alone, one Cannot be too careful…
You can have all the firepower… but unless you’re alerted to the danger, it’s useless… After a hard days work, fast asleep… Imagine being awakened as your tent is collapsing, not knowing what the hell is going on… by the time you collect your thoughts and grab a firearm, it could all be over, but the dying…
Life is a game of Chess… “What if” is the order of the day…
