It’s tough doing a blog post strictly from your phone, but here we are.
Did pretty much everything I had a mind to do. Will have a detailed write up when I get back to the house tomorrow. For now, watching the sun set and wondering where all the bears are.

brings back memories of service. Spent years in the woods with nothing but a ruck, camo pancho as improvised shelter, sleeping in the pancho liner and on a foam pad and a weapon beside me.
Which Group?
1st of the 87th, Tenth Mountain in late 80’s. We were DRF1 9 months out of the year all three years there and spent 265 days a year in the woods training. Ft Drum NY, NC, VI, CA, GA, Germany, Panama and a few I don’t remember 🙂 lol. When we started we carried all the issued gear but quickly realized that most of the time we weren’t using half of it. Finally started leaving tents and sleeping bags in spring, summer, fall and just using foam pads and poncho and poncho liner. Small tarp we bought ourselves became ground tarp
If your spending most of the year in the woods, packing and moving at 3am every morning, setting up after sunset, you get to learn the minimalist is fast and efficient and actually relatively comfortable. Winter though.. that came with all the gear and then some non issued just to stay warm when your sleeping on the ground outside in snow and 20 below zero temps.

I trust that’s not your food bag… (Which should be at least 30′-40′ away from your tent, and at least 15′-20′ in the air…) If it is your food bag, you’ve just placed a “homing signal” on your front porch, or the preverbal “bulls-eye” on yourself…
Oh, about those bears, you’re wondering about… yeah, they’re scared of humans, as a previous comment mentioned… except for that “one”… who’s wondering where you are….
