Got a bill from the conex people today. Soup-to-nuts, $5295. That includes delivery along the goat trail that passes for a road. I went up there last weekend and marked off where I’d like them to drop it. Next Wednesday is the scheduled delivery day.
This will be one of the more expensive additions to the place this year. But, I am hoping it affords me the convenience of leaving some stuff up there in a reasonably secure environment.*
The geegaw to let me use a bottle jack to lift the corners will be arriving today. So next weekends plan is to pick up some concrete block and some flat scrap steel and jack the bloody thing up off the ground a foot or so. And, of course, fix it so nothing tries to make a home underneath.
Ideally, this will let me avoid renewing my lease on a storage unit where I keep the side-by-side and some other small odds and ends.
However, this is all contingent on these guys getting it up there, in the right place, pointed in the right direction, and on time. We’ll see.
* = Yes, I know nothing is ‘secure’ when someone has all the time in the world to break into something. But, you know what? It’s more secure than it not being there. And, for now, theres not going to be anything more valuable than a few power tools in there and some assorted odds and ends.
Good luck getting it in and set up. It sounds to me like a reasonable investment and something that will be very useful.

Best thing I have even seen for a property is a gate. Stops people from being able to drive in, as criminals are generally lazy. A nice strong gate with no way around it stops the shenanigans.

Gate is 1st line of defense.
Second is the “Gray Man” defense. Nothing to find or see here…..
Third is protection for the “locks” on the Conex. I.E. a protective cover over the lock that is closing the handle on the Conex. A hand held, battery operated Harbor Freight grinder can cut through that ‘case hardened’ lock easily, so do that math.
Maybe third is a camera/video of some type, (with “fakes” with appropriate signs and decoys.

I lived in them overseas, You can find conversions that will install a wall just inside the doors that will make it into a cabin you can stay in while up there, At least get you out of the weather and give some protection from the critters. Lots of information online with pictures of conversions that can give you ideas, Congratulations and good luck.
As long as weather is temperate a hammock (containers come with loops welded in for cargo tie down) and a screen for a garage door gives immediate shelter
CAUTION, floor is treated with pesticides, any longer time residence should have floor replaced with human friendly material
Yup…right there on the same page.
And in a pinch, it can be a dry place to hang out\sleep if storms roll through while you’re out there.

I always wanted the palisade that Robinson Crusoe put in: a series of stakes with vines and other plants mixed in. After a while, the palisade and his home looked like a bunch of heavy plant growth and nothing more! I’ve always thought that concealment and deception beat most security systems in safeguarding people and stuff! Take care and glad to see you making hay while the sun shines!

That site isn’t blocking or right on top of your fresh meat trail is it? I’m a hunter who respects and abides by all fish and game regs, but if TSHTF, it’d sure be nice to have critters still crossing that little opening as they do now. Which reminds me: SALT, and plenty of it, along with oils/fat/lard when it cools off a little. I assume you know that man does not live on lean meat alone. Potable water, salt, fire starters and a known-good game trail are a damn fine start, not to mention the conex.

To the best of my knowledge, nothing new. However, dont think for a minute that means I’m not working on that issue. When I had the miniexcavator up there I pulled some large rocks outta the ground and will be using them to provide deterrent to vehicles accessing the road into the place. ALso will be adding more cameras. And, I don’t plan on leaving anything up there, secured or not, that I’m not willing to wave goodbye to.

I’m getting one for my property. 1-way trip 20 footers are going for $3600 delivered. Just gotta clear and level a spot for it.
As I think I’ve posted, I went with a new one because the newer ones have a protective cowling over the lock to deter thieves, as better venting to help with condensation, and does not have the possibility of having been used to haul something toxic. SO, yeah, new 20′.
