With the advent of wireless internet at the house, theres the option of moving a laptop into the bunker for convenient websurfing of references and the like. Be nice to be able to update spreadsheets and webshop for gear while sitting amidst my preps. And, before you ask, no there will not be a BunkerCam.

Not yet, anyway.

Need to rearrange a few things and inventory a few others. What I need is to find the time. I want to get it done by the weekend so I can maybe do some shooting this weekend.

Havent tried the ground beef yet…been meaning to and I keep blowing it off. But, when I do, I’ll let you know.

  1. I wanted to ask you.
Are you at all concerned about having a streaming webcam in your living space?

I know you guys love your webcams but… I think I’d feel a little creeped out, maybe, if it were in my living room. I’d think about stalkers and stuff.

  2. Which is no guarantee of security. I always prefer to operate as if a wireless network is a hostile network (which it is) and rely on other measures to secure my data.

  3. has been operating a webcam off and on for almost eight years. Our real address is in the whois database and both of us are fairly public about our amateur radio callsigns which are in a public database with our address. To date, we’ve never had an problem, nor do I suspect we ever will.

The issue really isn’t how to avoid the threat by trying to remain obscure, but how to deal with the threat once it presents itself.

  4. That’s easy to say when there’s never been a problem.
I mean no disrespect. I just don’t *want* to have to shoot anyone when my stalker finds my website, webcam, knows when I’m home alone, and comes to “reclaim my heart” like he’s been threatening for 12 years.
I don’t have much faith in the so-called inherent decency of humankind.

  5. webcam?

could feed in any random image like norad or nasa confusing the confused even more so. oh why worry about it, most humans look better when i wear a blindfold in a dark room. as for a recipe, a pack of hamburger mixed with a cup of cooked elbow macaroni, add a can of mushroom soup and some seasonings to taste. should serve at least two people well. 6. Stalkers arent a problem for me, Im a problem for stalkers

Not sure how someone looking at me or her on a webcam is stalking vs. ‘just watching’.

The webcam does not point at anything that gives the actual physical location of the house. It does not point outside the window to allow the viewer to see landmarks. The webcam covers an area of the living room that is easily ‘marked off’ so that ‘non webcam’ things can easily be kept from its view. The webcam is not always on. Also, the majority of her (and my) mail is sent to a PO box rather than the house address. And I would imagine that stalkers are more common in more heavily populated parts of the US…I doubt one would be willing to make the trip to Montana.

So, no, not the least bit worried.

  7. I’m a heck of a lot less worried about having it here than I was about having it in VIrginia. The Cmdr already expressed most of the reasons why it’s not a serious breach of privacy (we had discussed where it could and could not be pointed in advance), and honestly, if someone is going to follow him or me to Montana to stalk us, then I think they’d find us regardless. Even so, anyone who would come after either of us is clearly insane. 😉
