  1. Pardon my ignorance, but I only have a faint clue based on the page of what NBC gear is.

Im quite sure NBC means something, but I cant for the life of me figure out what.

    help?

  2. I don’t trust anyone that suggests anything is legal or illegal without citing the specific code.

Then again, I was looking for title 14 part 108 of the CFR the other day and I discovered that it went underground in 2003. I’m wondering if they’re making regs and then keeping them confidential, or something silly like that.

  3. mmkay. I got it. Doh.

I got the protective gear part, just not the acronym. It should have been so obvious.

    Thanks!

  4. Okay, now. Can I see a show of hands? Everyone who thinks the government of the United States cares about you as an individual, please raise your hand.

Because if you can’t buy a military surplus gas mask made after a certain date, it sure says something about how the government views its relationship with us.

  5. I didn’t see a CFR or EO citation on that article, so it’s likely to be BS. HOWEVER, there has been a general crackdown in stolen/misappropriated military equipment over the past few years. The big issue as it applies to NBC gear is that the latest generation has not been surplused out, and yet it is appearing at surplus sales and stores. The Feds are definitely taking an interest in that.

  6. I was thinking the same thing. It’s not so much that NBC is a restricted item so much that any recent issue gear on the market HAS to be stolen or misappropriated since there is no “surplus” on these items. The crackdown on recent dated military MRE’s is a similiar situation.
