Went into my local Albertson’s to check the remaindered meat bin as I usually do. They had a half turkey for $3.53 and a whole turkey breast for $1.97. The larger one was $2.00 of and the smaller was $1.00 off. So, for a whopping $2.50 I got enough turkey for at least four days. These need to be cooked immediately or frozen. I’ll put ’em in the freezer to freeze and once solid I’ll transfer them into the vaccuum sealer and stuff ’em in the deep freeze for longterm. Cryo-nap for Gobbles!

And, the elegant part is that I just throw it into the back of the truck under a foot of snow and I can leave it there until Im ready to head back to the house.

Three bucks I saved…thats half a box of 9mm, one gallon of gasoline, a winter hat, or half of a case of bottled water….for free! Pays to shop, campers!

First major snowfall of the season dumped about 4-5″ of the fluff stuff on the area. I almost look forward to a mindnumbing snowfall…I have a new roof, lotsa food, fuel and the like. Let. It. Snow. I take a perverse pleasure in the notion of having a warm, well-lit, well-fed, hideously well-armed household while my neighbors are huddled around candles like French peasants.

Looks like the bird flu hype is dying down. Oh sure, its still there…it just isnt getting the ink it used to. Be interesting to see how that works out…….almost makes me want to watch “The Stand” again.

Offyear elections in 2006. I havent been too worried about the politicians passing new gun control (on a federal level anyway) because there have been too many incidents that work against the gun control people and not enough incidents that work for them. If you had a couple high-profile school shootings near the election you might get something, but those just havent been happening. On the othe hand, the World Trade Center attack and Hurrican Katrina made everyone question their own safety and much of that soulsearching about personal safety works to my advantage. Oh sure, theres the usual gang of idiots like career-politician Schumer, Feinstein, Teddy “Capt. Nemo” Kennedy and their ilk but theyve got alot bigger things on their plate htese days as they try to bring down wounded republicans. However, dont confuse lack of concern with apathy. no sirree bob. No reason not to get yourself some magazines, evil looking guns, hollowpoint ammo and other sundries just in case.

I suppose with December starting, its time to start thinking about what to do in 2006 and set some goals. Anyone wanna chime in with their list? Keep it simple, just give your top ten preparedness goals for 20006. I’ll work on mine and post them in a week.

  1. top ten preparedness goals for 20006

Phased plasma rifle in the 40-Watt range.

    OK, no, seriously:
    2x more food.
2x water drums + chem oxidizer.
    M4, 50 30 round mags, 5000 rounds, Pelican case.
    Scoped Remington LTR in .308.
    index all the preps.
Handgun for storage + Pelican case.
    medkit buildout.
    solar buildout.
learn to live on ramen for all the money I’ll be spending.
share the love: recruit the parents up to basic preps.

  2. Decide if 7.62 nato will be my main round. I may yet chose 30.06 and stay w/a M1 Gerrand.
Get the final loadings on the .338 lapau then handload and stock the fixens
See if I can do a genny for my condo
work on depression and meds issues
    3 x wk arobics, 3 x weights

I have more but these are the main ones

But… Isn’t it the time to worry, when the MSM stops hyping it? And I don’t mean this, as a joke.

  4. Goals

More food, water and fuel sources.
More medical supplies, and classes to learn how to use them better.
    Offsite caching.
More field testing of existing gear.
Less time shooting n00bs in online video games, more time punching holes in real targets at the range.
Lowering my real world profile on the Grid.
Continue to work towards financial independence.
Extra parts for critical gear, guns, light sources, stoves etc.

CZ, have a quick question for you. You mention other fellow LMI’s in your archives here – do you socialize with them? I have told very few people about my preparedness efforts because of the reasons you mentioned in an earlier post this week regarding the current definition of ‘survivalist’. Do you see other LMI’s as an asset or threat? After all, they know better the value of a box of AK firing pins and a case of Jack Daniels as trade goods than do 99% of the general population in your local area…

    Thanks,
    Crom

  5. Re: Goals

Sure, I socialize with the LMI. The LMI were originally friends and acquaintances whom I later found out had like-minded ideas on the subject….not the other way around.

Since these were people I was already friends with, after a year or two it became obvious that they were of similar mind about being prepared and hen it was just a matter of breaking the ice and talking about it.

Now, if you went in the other direction – finding people who thoguht like you do and then trying to make friends of them, that might be much more difficult.

I see having other LMI’s as a definite asset as long as it is clearly known what is expected from each other. Obviously we expect a great deal of privacy regarding our interests and we try not to talk ‘outside’ of our little group about our interests. Its been my experience that you can usually tell if someone is ‘one of us’ by observing their lifestyle. I’ll have to post about this later…a “How Do You Meet Like Minded Individuals” type of thing….

  6. list for next year

    replace outdated food, pills, excetra
buy more usefull books and other supplies
redo the shop and storage areas
refill the moat, restock the gators
and keep writting my wildflowers notes
best goal, stay alive and free, as the world lurches downward.

  7. 1-Complete base food supplies.
While on this deployment, I insured that everything needed to process bulk food into long-term stored food will be available at home. Two weeks before I arrive at my de-mob station, I’ll drop a large bulk food order so that it’ll be waiting for me when I get home, or will arrive shortly thereafter.

    2-Complete medical sets

    3-Begin bulk ammunition purchases
I think .308 will be the caliber of choice, followed by .223 Remington. The Unprepared Loved Ones (ULOs) will do better with .223.

4-Begin purchases to fill voids in communications plan.
Like, there is only a plan and nothing to effect it.

5-Continue to look for large house, with below ground basement, deep well and septic system. Not as easy as it sounds given most (all?) properties with the resources to live self-sufficiently are taken, property in northern WV went pretty quick, but I’m expecting the market to change in the near-term future. Additionally, I want to buy the property through an attorney and place it into a corporation, trust or foundation vs. predatory lawsuits and other hostile legal mechanisms.

6-Continue to plan for the big move to NoVA.
