LJ link – Self defense arrest

Anyone recall this post about the guy that got arrested after he dissuaded a homeless guy with a knife? Cops arrested him, took his carry gun, then got a search warrant for his residence and helped themselves to the guns there too.

The homeless guy kept skipping the court appearances so the dates kept getting moved. Here’s an update that’ll piss you off to no end.

  1. It’s outrageous, but not unbelieveable.

Since Philadelphia and many other cities and states have went this way, then it’ss no place for the liberty loving citizen.

Move da’ fuck out and let them have the population that they deserve.

That’s a huge reason why I moved from Maryland to West Virginia.

  2. It seems as though living in a jurisdiction with the right political/cultural attitudes is a more important component of preparedness than anything to do with guns.

  3. I remember reading an article by Mas Ayoob a while back where he mentioned if you so much as even feel the need to mention to someone you are armed in a tense situation you need to call the Police immediately. This would seem to be one of those times.

The whole situation does suck though.

  4. it has been

often presumed that the main reason people should be disarmed so that the muderers, rapists, and other ilk can survive to pay their lawyers.

and the cops loathe civilians whom protect themselves.

  5. This gent is a regular on SIGForum. There’ve been a number of threads there about the situation, and yeah, that’s the one thing he kicks himself for again, and again, and again. He knew ahead of time that he should call the cops if he were ever forced to brandish. Let the first thing the cops hear be from the good guy, not the bad guy. He basically says that when the situation actually arose, with the corresponding stress and adrenaline, he was just so glad to get out of there that he didn’t think to call.

Amazing how such a small mental lapse (understandable in the circumstances) can cost so much.
