It never stops

In, of all places, the bloody shower….

::rii…”What!?”

“Want a Rugger 556?”
“How much?”
“[price]”
“Dammit.”

I had about fifteen minutes before I had to be somewhere but that was enough time to go to the bank, grab cash, head to the store, and literally walk in the door, hand the guy the money, say “thanks”, grab the box, and walk out. Total time on target: less than 60 seconds.[1]

So, yeah, this happened:

But for $450 it’d be pretty hard to pass up. I’ll function fire it this weekend and then put it back in the box and probably stick it in the rafters or something as a beyond-tertiary backup AR.

The Ruger 556 has a slight ‘bargain’ feel to it with it’s milled front sight tower, but I’d take it over a Palmetto, Delton, Core, or other lower-end AR for the same money. And, yes, that’s green cerakote finish..Model #8504.

1 = Yes, there was no paperwork on this transaction. He simply moves it from his license to my license so there’s no real paperwork like a 4473 or anything for me to deal with. I’ll log it into my my book and then write a 4473 to get it off my books to me as a personal gun.

  1. I remember the first time I saw a Ruger 5.56 at a gun show. I was all smiles until I noticed the price tag. Ouch! It’s nice to see that one of these can be had for a reasonable cost. I guess this one has the standard direct impingement system of the AR-15 and not the short stroke piston. Very nice nevertheless.

  2. I recently got the MPR version (which I prefer – 18″ barrel v. 16.1″) for considerably more, since I reside at the end of the retail chain. It comes packed the same. Check the box – mine had a knife catalog and a unloaded chamber flag tucked inside. I never would have noticed them had I not had the foam pieces drop out.

  3. A Ruger AR clone at $450 is not to be passed up, unless your truck needs a new engine, or your kid needs a kidney.

Ten’s not a bad number, nor five.
Mine would be similar, but then I want a dozen more for the cobbled-together A-team of known miscreants who might arrive minus most of their kit, and then another 30-40 for the rump militia platoon for the local defense force.
But just of primary weapons and sidearms, at that point.

As in most of life, if you have choices, it’s always better to be the guerrilla warlord than just the guerilla.

I blame James Cameron: when Sarah Connor pulls the lid open on her jointly-owned subterranean storage box with Salceda, my only comment was to add that to my lifetime bucket list, because “I want one of those”.

And they don’t fall off of trees, you have to go and get you one.

And none of the supplies are going to go bad, this side of the dot mil adopting phased plasma longarms in the 40W range, at which point they become collectable curios and relics for another generation, and I’ll be past caring anyways.

    • The Chicoms announced the development and deployment of laser rifles. The future may be nearer than you think

      • Yah.

And Popular Science announced we’d be flying cars and jet packs and shooting our laser rifles about twenty times between 1930 and 1960.

        I’m still waiting.
