AR mags

Went to the Hamilton gun show. Here’s a lesson in shopping:

I go to the table that has all the military surplus. Theres 8 AR mags sitting in the bin.
Me: How much for the mags?
Him: Ten bucks each.
Me: Make me a better deal for all of them?
Him: Sorry.

On the other side of the room is a fella with a table full of misc gun stuff. Theres a stack of six AR mags.
Me: How much for the mags?
Him: I dunno…lemme think.
Me: Make me a deal for all of them.
Him: How about twenty bucks.
Me: I can do that.

So eight mags for $80 vs. six mags for $20. Given the current political clime what would you do? Precisely: drop $100, buy all 14 and average out your cost.

  1. So here’s a question.

Depending on how the new bans & laws stack up, if it comes down to the point where you find yourself in possession of equipment that is no longer legal, are you gonna have to get rid of it? ‘Cos I assume Officer Cupcake will have to turn you in otherwise.

  2. Smart move. Though I was half expecting you to say you intended to abide by the letter of the law. I wasn’t sure if cop was sexually transmitted, so I guess I am relieved by your answer.

  3. Nah. I’m only on lj for shits and giggles. I enjoy shooting the breeze, sharing funny links and occasionally taking the piss outta my lj friends. I’m not so much for the serious political/LE discussions, fifty cent word tossing or masturbatory smartness contests. I’m here to have a good time.

  4. Ya know, if the proposed bans do go into effect, I don’t have a single rifle that would be legal:

    Japanese Arisaka Type 99,
    Japanese Arisaka Type 44 Cavalry,
    Ruger Mini-30,
and the PTR-91KF that’s probably coming home with me from the gun show today.

Geez, will even my Walther PPK be safe?

  5. Just back from the “Dixie Classic Gun and Knife Trader’s Show and Sale” and, as predicted, the PTR-91KF followed me home. Damn it’s a pretty little Evil Black Rifle.

Actually, I wanted the PTR-91F, the standard rifle with the 18″ barrel, but no one had one on the tables and ordering one would have required a fair amount of hassle, whereas all I had to do for the KF was walk in, fill out the paperwork, hand over the money, and come back home to stroke and fondle and feel and caress…I should stop now.

And because I always listen to Commander Zero, I picked up five 20-rd. G3 mags for $2.00 each, two heavy-ass G3 steel mags for $10.00 each, and one 30 rd. parkerized mag for $18.00.

By the way, in case you’ve never run across it, you might enjoy computer ubergeek Eric S. Raymond’s Gun Nut Page.

  6. Mags being the weak link of the system, it would kind of suck to have 14 mags that don’t feed reliably.
