Link – Police surplus….M249S?

Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch and starts chest-beating about how police departments have no need for a semi-auto M249, it is worth noting that this is advertised as new condition and never been unboxed. Likely some department ordered these at the 11th hour to use up their budget so it wouldn’t get cut the following year.

But, if you have $7k to spend….although dealer on a new one is $7700 so its really only a 10% discount.

However, it is also worth pointing out that some departments actually use the M240…most notably, some Texicans.

  1. Like a semi Uzi, I just don’t get this. Basically, you have a 17+ lb AR-15 but with a belt. A Magpul high cap mag will nearly be the same. BTW, those DPS patrol boats are on the Rio Grande. Would bet a buck those are full auto real deal SAWs. The other side has fully auto weapons and even grenade launchers. When I lived down there you could hear full auto songs just about anytime of the day or night. Not too many explosions, but a few. Funny what you can buy with drug money. I moved north about 250 miles and its peaceful.

  2. Can’t let those Mexican drug cartels out gun us on the Rio Grande!! Texans do it right. You want gun control, we Texans will show you the meaning of “gun control” at 650 rpm!! If the Feds did their job than Texas wouldn’t need these patrol boats on the river.

    • Never understood the Texas mythology about guns. They were more restricted than most of the country till relatively recently. At least as it relates to out in public.

      • A myth it is. Note those SAWS are for the chosen ones, not run of the mill Joe sixpack. Our political class are so crooked they must screw their pants on in the morning. That started after the War Between the Americans and the Yankees. They were called carpetbaggers and the winners chose who could rule over us. It has not changed much through the years. The rulers tried hard to stop CCW but gave up. They still threw up onerous regs and rules in place. We just had Constitutional Carry defeated yet again. We also just got some of the silly knife laws repealed (and yes indeed even the Bowie knife was prohibited). People always think of the fedgov as the menace, but the state and local pols are closer to you……and even more dangerous to your happiness.

        • NOG,
That has nothing to do with Texas, That would be the Federal NFA that keeps you from owning one.

          • I know, the fedgov law not allowing any new automatic weapons I think from 1986. I was referring to thirdman, but even if they were made legal, our political class would try to ban them. It must be something in the drinking water of Travis County. Go to Austin and you mind breaks.

  3. Alot of money for something I can’t go to full rock and roll with. For a couple of Gees more I can get the full auto version.

    • Full-auto M249 that can be sold to an ordinary citizen? There’s exactly one (1) such in the US. It was for sale about 15 years ago, and the asking price was in the ballpark of $550,000.

“A couple of Gees more” than $7000 won’t buy much in the way of legal full-auto these days. Maybe an M55 Reising or some flavor of MAC SMG, though even these are commonly $8000 now.

Anything belt-fed is going to cost well more than twice that. An M1919 Browning is probably the most affordable yet usable belt-fed; they start a $20,000 currently.

  4. Because I don’t have one. And I can get another SKB M249 travel case with the foam cut out still in it.

And finally, just… ‘Murica. Hell yea.
