The host with the most…guns

Nope..not dead. Nor in a FEMA camp somewhere. It’s tourist season in Montana which means entertaining people from outtastate. And…thats what I’ve been up to this last week.

We shall now return to our regularly unscheduled brain droppings.

Oh, and by the by, I actually had a couple people complain about the relative silence for the last week. Really? We’re all sovereign individuals here, guys. I have no obligation to anyone that I have not voluntarily undertaken to have. And, as I recall, I never undertook an obligation to post a particular amount of posts, within a particular period of time, to anyone.

So…beggars can’t be choosers. Some weeks you get four or five posts, some weeks you get two or three, and once in a while there’s a rare week of radio silence. In a world where preparedness blogs come and go after fairly short runs, barking at me over a weeks worth of silence kinda seems an ungrateful act considering I’ve been doing this longer than pretty much any other blog on the subject.

  1. I have been coming to your site for about a year, if I see that you haven’t updated it with a post. I think well he’s busy, he has a life, family, friends, etc. Andy then I think just a few more days and he will post something great for us as always. Live life and have fun!

  2. It is probably not anyone’s fault they don’t realize they are being ingrates. Since physical punishment has been outlawed in schools, the home, the military, etc., folks don’t get instant feedback on a lack of a filter on their brain. Don’t worry, Darwin has a little gift for them, real soon.

  3. I have been silent about the absence of new postings, and I have certainly not fallen into the “barking” category, but I have been disappointed that I have not seen a new posting from you. I look forward each day to seeing your “words of wisdom” and your opining on many issues. Of course, I recognize that you do “have a life” and that things come up that might distract you.

    Keep up the good work!

  4. Take as much time as you need, or want, we’ll survive. By the way, I visit your site because I enjoy your opinion and outlook on the whirrled. Listening to others opinions are valuable in assessing my own, however bogus they may be, our not. Sometimes mine are out of whack, sometimes not. So the world goes. Maybe our politicos should try that concept… Ya think! ….. Hope U enjoyed ur time away dealing with them infernal outtastaters……

  5. Infernal greedy beggars, indeed.

Perhaps seeding the brain clouds would be more helpful…what do you think of those books that offer breakdowns of optimal locales? Are they out of date the day they hit the market? Are the location fears of the ’90s the same to come in the 2020’s?

    • Somethings change and others stay the same. For example where I grew up 20 years ago was fairly rural, lots of hobby farms etc., but now they are expanding the interstate through that county. Reducing its desirability as a retreat locale.

Another thing to look for in those books is what is the author preparing for. Because what you view as your most likely scenario determines where you are gonna want to be. For example if its a simple socio-economic collapse then the Midwest would be a good place to be, however if it’s a nuclear war the midwest definitely wouldnt be the best place to be.

A big thing that changes overtime is demographics. For example in my state things are slowly but surely creeping to the gun grabber side of the political spectrum. A book written in the 90s or even the 2000s could not reflect what the people, politics, etc. of a certain area look like now; although there are some exceptions.

  6. I have been remiss up to this point and would like to correct my error. I have been reading your blog for over a year now, and love it. I enjoy your wit, I enjoy your ideas on preparedness, I enjoyed your Ruger 10/22 mag deal and I look forward to your blog every day. I have not yet thanked you for the free service you provide. Very few individuals in this world today do anything for free and we should cherish those who have knowledge and wisdom and deem to share it with us, especially for FREE! Thank you and God Bless you. Dan.

  7. I just figure that you can only squeeze your brain in a vise to get juice to post so many times before you need a rest.
We will be here, waiting for the free ice cream and candy when you return.
Besides, I thought you were buying another gun or three!

  8. Let’s get this straight. I pay the bills, I make the rules. Oh wait… You pay the bills?

    Nevermind then.

  9. Zero

Have been reading you blog for probably over 5-6 years. And yes when I don’t see something new from you I am a little disappointed but not to the point of bitching at you. You have a life and had some medical issues in the past couple years so I figure hey when the guy is ready to put forth, he’s ready. No biggie. Just that your particular sarcastic slant on things is very entertaining. But hey man thanks for all the info and opinions you have offered. Appreciate it. Prep on!

  10. Geez, I’ve been coming here for years. I can’t even remember how long now. I would rather see a real post once a week from you than those who post daily about crap projects, products they had ebegged for or just terrible ideas they found on a Facebook page.

  11. I don’t believe you…. I think you ESCAPED the fema camp…. And that’s one of many reasons your great! 👍🏻

  12. Tam of View From The Porch, has termed it, “the free ice cream machine”.

Myself? Thanks, CZ. If I have problems with the free ice cream, I suppose I can simply go BUY some, more to my liking.

In the meantime, I’ll enjoy your output when/as/how you generously provide it.

  13. Would if be bad of me to tell those that complained, “To hell with you all”? If so, I guess I am just a bad person.

  14. CZ, I read your comments yesterday and had a good laugh. People can be such idiots! They also believe that actors are actually the characters from their favorite Soaps and accost them on the street! We Canucks don’t think that way. We are way too polite and accommodating to be so rude. (work with the sarcasm, people!) I enjoy your “brain droppings” and use some of them in conversations with my like minded friends. By all means carry on! TTFN

  15. Didn’t even consciously notice the absence. I came a few times, noticed that I’d already read the latest post and then went elsewhere to another favorite site. It’s certainly not the first time. I enjoy your site which is why I come back to see if there is something new. Sometimes I will re-read the replies to see what others have added since the last time.

I agree with what Jim implied – I think it’s a generational thing. I believe that instant gratification is what is ruining the country. It is the reason that debt is the problem that it is. I was raised to save up to buy something that I wanted, and to hold off if there were more important needs than wants. I guess that’s why I have no debt now. Thanks Mom and Dad.

Thanks for your free words Zero.
