Achievement unlocked: Bargain AR

Last week I made the mistake of stopping in a gun store and found a complete PSA AR-15 lower, w/ Magpul furniture for $65. Well, shoot….wouldn’t you have snagged it too? There was some confusion on the paperwork and I complained a bit and they knocked $5 off the price. So, complete Magpul’s PSA lower for $60.

Then today, PSA sends me an email about this. A complete upper, with bolt carrier group and charging handle, for $199 delivered. Ok, that’s not gonna be easy to beat. Order up.

Final total? A brand new, ‘economy’ tier AR15 for $260.

What a… (wait for it)….bARgain.

  1. Sell it to me for $265, and you will have just made yourself a tidy little profit, Mister.

  2. I really, really want to like AR’s. Just the ghost gun component is so tempting. Alas, being forced to use the A1…and then being spoiled with the SKS and Lee-Enfield…Just hard to pry my wallet open after all that. Its a mental block, as I know I’m passing up a fleeting historical moment. Good on you with the blessings of the Gun Gods.

    • I have a friend of mine who had horrible experiences with the M16 in Vietnam and to this day refuses to even try shooting one because of the reliability issues from fifty years ago. His refusal to even entertain the possibility that things might have improved in fifty years is just silly. When elevators first came out, people died. SO because of this, none of us should take elevators… at least, thats the parallel argument.

The AR15 is a good gun these days, I think. The modularity lets you make it into whatever your perceived need is. With prices so low these days, money is really not even a factor in choosing it and, say, an SKS, SMLE, or other WW2-era design.

      • What I finally came to realize is that my favorite gun, the Smelly, sucked in 1915, compared to 1943. So if I accepted the no.4 Enfield, why couldn’t I accept the M16A2? Answer, it is foolish NOT to. I understand I’m being irrational not switching over to the AR. And you are correct. Cost is another reason to switch. Of course, with on up to 10k rounds of ammo in 303 ( with reloads ), it is kind of hard walking away from that ( I’m not a die-hard semi fan-I actually prefer bolts for the apocalypse because of logistics ). I’m right, staying where I am, financially, but I WAS wrong about the AR.

        • :::shrug::: Hey, at least you can admit it.
The AR isn’t my favorite rifle, but objectively its probably the most logical choice for most people for its ubiquity, aftermarket supports, development, logistical abundance, and that sort of thing. In a country where probably 90% of the semiauto .223 rifles out there are AR pattern guns it would be reasonable to think having one might not be a bad idea.

  3. I’ve owned an older Bushmaster AR for a dozen or so years that has been a good shooter. Then a few years ago I build myself a PSA “special” from scratch. I hear a LOT of people bashing the PSA parts , and sure they don’t have the QC of a Colt or Daniel Defense etc… but mine has run pretty nice so far. Maybe I just haven’t run it hard enough.

    • I built a PSA pistol, it shoots well but it only like 55gr FMJ….i chambered a 62gr round and had to unload it and had to Butt stroke it to eject the round…..

  4. Golf clap! Nice find. Just found Rise Armament trigger on sale locally for 70 bucks a pop. Good triggers at 3.5 for my SBRs.

  5. And just what shop here in Zootown do you frequent for these great deals?

    • I’m a bit confused how its in my best interest to answer that. I mean, if I tell you then that means that I have competition for those sorts of deals.

    • It gets worse. My neighbor across the street has a DelTon he wants to sell because he just isn’t a black rifle kinda guy and prefers precision bolt guns. Said he sell it to me for $300. I..I…ugh…

      • I had an elderly neighbor pass a few years ago, I would always check on him and his wife, they never had children. He was 97 when he passed. His wife told me he always enjoyed the conversations with the “youngster” down the street. She asked me to get rid of a few things she didn’t want around the house anymore. Turns out there were three firearms….. 2 of them were pocket pistols and wait for it…. the third was an M-1 Garand! I told her that it was worth around $1K and I offered to pay her for them. She appreciated my honesty and winked at me, saying that she had more money than she knew what to do with and that her husband knew that her sister’s kids were “hippies” and wouldn’t appreciate them! She then tells me that when she is gone, she was 92 and passed a few years ago, that I would remember them. So I thanked her and every time I shoot the Garand or tell the story I remember them. RIP Gates and Vicky….. It wasn’t an AR but I think my story was going some where……

  6. Great buy on your part CZ. Personally I’m not that big a fan of the gas impingement system on ARs, I much rather a semi auto with a gas/piston arrangement. This is because I’m lazy and I don’t like the incessant cleaning that goes along with the AR platform. :^)

  7. Well done scoring an AR for $260! I was feeling good about using a $2 off coupon at Albertsons today for deodorant but now….
