On my way to 12-step

There are no classes in life for beginners; right away you are always asked to deal with what is most difficult.” – Rilke

Ok, here’s the thing….. I’d wanted a ‘tactical’ 10/22 takedown for a while. This one isn’t exactly what I had in mind but…Magpul takedown stock, Nikon .22 scope with BDC, Tactical Solutions threaded barrel…and all for less than the dealer cost of the other one.

Sexy bast, innit?

My impulse control on guns is so low these days. A psychologist would probably say I’m either punishing myself for something or I’m trying to fill some sort of aching void in my life. Regardless, there had darn well better be a zombie apocalypse at some point so I can justify this nonsense.

  1. I gave my son one of those for Christmas several years ago. I like how it all goes into that carry bag that comes along w it. It certainly wasn’t as tricked out but I included both a decent scope and a reflex sight as well as 4 of the BX25 mags. All in all it’s a pretty sweet little rifle. He said he was able to plink a gopher at 500 ft with it sighted in.

  2. So your being a “gun collector” differs from me being a “tool collector” exactly how?
Same symptoms exactly, just different items being collected. Oh yes, btw, the same excuses for “collecting” them too.

Hi. my name is Phil and I’m a tool junkie.
Admitting it is the first step, so they say, whoever they are.
I’m suspecting “they” don’t have a very fulfilling hobby like we do.

    • Hi Phil!

I, too, am trying to recover, but I relapse regularly. I have it under control…really! See, the real problem developed when a guy at work’s father decided to sell his Rockwell milling machine – the kind with the R-8 spindle. Well, it was a real sweet deal – I paid more for my Springfield Armory M1A back in the 80’s with the ART-IV range finding scope and 1000 rd case of .Mil ammo.

The problem is now I need tooling. I just need the rotary table – honest, honey – it’s just this one time – I promise!

  3. Low impulse control is what makes you popular. Wife, “You have too many guns!” You, “No way, ho. Commander Zero has, like, three hundred” We won’t even talk about ammo amounts.

  4. Impulse control is waaaay overrated. And you don’t have to many, cause to many is one more than you already have. Besides, they are what’s referred to as tangibles, worth way more than the fake money you use to buy em with. And you have to consider that if you have physical control of your assets, you have something, unlike funds inna bank. You wake up one morning and all of a sudden for some unknown reason you have nothing left cause TPTB though they needed it more and you have no choice.

  5. Went to gun show today got a great deal on Ammo for an M1 Carbine that I haven’t shot in over 40 years (That I already have 1500 rds or so) And some 9MM Browning Mags for 2still New, in the Box, Brownings I bought 30 years ago. Got 3 more, I have shot. So what’s your problem?

  6. A trip to the range will make you feel better! Go burn some ammo and makes sure that thing is sighted in.

  7. That Magpul do have some sex appeal. Um Hmm.

I don’t already own a TD 10/22, so I’m looking at the Pro-Mag Arch Angel QBD stock, converting any non take-down 10/22 to take down. I have that already.

  8. Every 12 Step program I’ve ever heard of is located on roads that run past gun and tool stores…….

  9. On the plus side, if you have to go do the 12 step program you will not be alone. 😉

One thing I’ve found with the1022 TD is that no matter how tight the lockup is the zero changes when I reassemble it. What I did was replace the barrel sight with a Skinner peep sight and it works pretty well.

Since the bone-heads in the RCMP banned the Ruger 1022 extended magazines, I also picked up a magazine adapter so my 1022 TD uses Remington 597 30 round magazines.

    • No, 12 steps is you are allowed 12 firearms from SAME manufacturer. Its in the bylaws – I looked it up !! :^)

  10. Very aesthetically pleasing assembled. Any chance you’d post a photo of it in transformer-mode?
