Maximum Mini Mags

As I noted a few posts back, it looks like TAPCO is heading for the ‘no longer a going concern’ category of gun-related businesses. While I wont miss the SKS stocks and other crap, I will miss the Mini-14 mags. So….

Ordered these off GunBroker. Came out to $10@ which was reasonable. And, once I had received a tracking number indicating my order had shipped, I shared the auction link with you guys in case anyone wanted to grab some while they could. Well, apparently a bunch of you must have because when I go to check those same auctions the prices are up 20%. FYI, $12 is actually pretty close to what dealer cost was so theyre still a reasonable alternative to the $28 Ruger mags.

Ordered 25 because I only have the two Mini-14’s and they aren’t part of my plans.

I have another ten mags sitting around as ‘ready’ mags in case, thorugh some fluke, I wind up actually having to run the zombie apocalypse with the Mini-14, but the rest of these are Deep Sleepers.

  1. Anyone on TAPCO for the AR? I ordered a bunch last year, $8 each at Midway, and I must say they have not treated me well. I figured I could sell them once all high-caps are banned, but that is small consolation being out about $200 right now.
Is it me, or the brand? Never loaded more than 20 and always getting jams. .

    • No reason to buy the Tapco when the Magpuls are in the same pricing bracket. RSR has them for, I believe, $7.95.
Also, are you shooting steel cased .223? Steel cased anything is hit-n-miss in polymer mag bodies.

      • Okay, good to know. Yeah, steel case. I’m crap beyond 100 yards or so, so accuracy took a back seat to quantity. At the time, I think Magpuls were +50%. I could have shopped around better, I imagine. But I’m happy now with my aluminums. I know I had a good reason at the time buying plastic, but can’t guess what it was.

  2. Thanks for the heads up. Picking up a few extra Mini mags has been on my to do list for a while. Did some quick research and you and NF pushed me off the fence. 10-12 bucks is not too bad compared to Ruger.

For what it’s worth I have used (and still use) Pro-Mag steel mags and have never had an issue with running steel cased Wolf .223 or any brass cased ammo.

I’m really looking forward to trying out the Tapcos.
