Patriots Day 2020

One of only a a handful of holidays I actually get enthusiastic about, today is Patriots Day. You can do a search on the blog under ‘Patriots day’ and come up with previous posts on the subject. I try to keep to it’s spirit by going out to the range and practicing for the next shoot-the-Redcoats episode that comes along.

Interestingly, you can buy multicam versions of those hats online.

I understand many of you cannot, for various reasons, get to the range today. It happens. But if you can’t get out and put some lead in the air, you should at least give some thought to the history of the day and what it means to you.

  1. In honor of Patriot’s day, and not able to go out and shoot due to an injury, I did the second best thing and bought a gun. Savage 99M in .243, dates to 1967. They have a following and I just have a soft spot for lever action rifles. This makes me happy.

    • A fine alternative! I found a sweet Ruger Super Blackhawk at the local pawn shop and put some of my stimulus check to work stimulating the local economy.

  2. The dog and I went out yesterday popped a few. Only 10 minutes from the “compound” bagged a couple with the ruger 9mm takedown carbine a couple weeks ago.

    • I read once the LA Swat team, who shoot a LOT of perps, choice of sniper rifle was an off the rack Remington 700 in .243. Seems they had issues with over penetration (read pass through to potentially hit by standers) with the .308 168g Match Kings BTHP.

  3. Myself, wife, teenage daughter and son all took turns with over 250 rds of ammunition today.

  4. One of my great great great (I don’t know how many greats) along with my uncle fought in the Revolutionary War. They were both captured and sent to POW ships in New York City harbor. My uncle died on the ship. My grandfather hated the brits. During the War of 1812 the newspaper did a story about him going down to the shores of Lake Erie to shoot his rifle at the British Ships as they sailed pass. Of course he wasn’t going to hit anything but none the less it showed how he really despised the Brits. He died at age 82.

  5. All the ranges closed, the other day was national dry fire day(perfect practice makes perfect). Does sharpening knifes count as a approved alternative activity? They are all razor sharp now.

  6. Dear 3ADscout, This relative of yours really was a great great great (I do not know how many greats) Great Grand Father. His actions and those of his brother gives us all an ideal. To never surrender and submit. Bless Him and Bless His Memory.

  7. Missed putting on the Appleseed event, should have been a good, with the 19th falling on a Sunday.
Anyway, went to the range a shot a couple of Red Coat targets. Damm, I need more trips to the range, have to practice those fundamental, six steps to taking the shot.
