Oh merciful Crom, this thing is *cute*. I have always wanted a little 9mm carbine that would break down into a tiny package. Not as a first choice to Omega Man my way through some darkened city, but rather as a low-profile, easy-to-hide-in-a-desk-drawer option for when you’re at work when the riots start. Chuck a little red dot (leaning toward that TRS-25) on there, drop in a happystick, and you’re good to go.

I gotta hand it to Ruger, this is the sort of thing they never would have come out with when Billy Sr. was still breathing. This thing is lighter than my Uzi, and more compact than my Evo. I’m really curious to see how that short barrel does in terms of accuracy on steel plates at 50 yards.

And, yes, this thing really needs a suppressor on the end just to complete the look.

  1. Would low profile iron sights work? Its a short rail, but thinking EMP ish…

    • I have doubts that an electronic as small and simple as that would be affected negatively.

    • Yep – using G21 mags would be the cat’s meow – are ya listening Ruger??

      • I might fill out a 4473 and submit a tax stamp for that in .45 acp….

Form factor looks better (to me) than any AR platform in .45… for the in-the-desk-when-the-communists-storm-the-gates sort of thing. A discreet pack with mags, can and ear/eye protection shoved to back corner under the desk would be ideal.

I’m thinking a short single point sling under a light coat in a sort of “whippit” style would keep things nice and covered.

  2. That’s a sweet looking little package.
Might have to do a little shopping…

  3. I picked one up a few weeks ago having trouble finding a brace in stock. Shoots nice I will really enjoy this once I get a brace

  4. Did you compare this to the AR-9 platform before purchase? I haven’t done any comparisons on my own yet but was thinking of getting a Palmetto type AR-9 that takes Glock mags. Ruger’s name and quality is probably better but I like the some of the parts swap capabilities with the AR platform. This Ruger looks like a fun option.

    • The 9mm ARs are a different niche. I wanted the most portable platform that took Glock mags.

    • Good buddy went the Palmetto route and added the suppressor. Loves it and is going to pressure me into one soon if available.

  5. I’ll raise you one “real” CAA micro-roni…(not the fake mck)
Not sure how to post a pic of it here, though….

  6. CDR, Ruger doesn’t ship the charger with an “arm brace”, correct? Where did you find yours?

  7. I hate you Commander, LOL. That little Ruger I would consider a true PDW and I bet it puts AR9’s to shame.

    • Meh…ergonomics arent bad, but not as good as the AR. Mag release is the main issue…to use a pistol magazine it has to have the release in a position that is not familiar to AR operators.
