Said I wasn’t gonna, did anyway pt. II

Everyone has a few moments in their life where someone told them something and it turned out to be a nugget of wisdom that they carry for the rest of their lives. Years ago, I was talking to one of the nationally known weapons collectors and I asked him how he managed to find all these amazing deals. He said, “When you’ve been in this business long enough, you don’t have to go looking for good deals…the good deals come looking for you.” And he was right. The more I travel in particular circles and network, the more often the materiel comes to me rather than vice versa. Todays example:

Singlehandedly fighting The War On The War On Guns

WASR-10, 2 mags, and 400 rounds of ammo. Annnnnd….(wait for it)……….$425.

I was done…done I tell you!…buying guns at the end of 2020. My needs were (mostly) filled. I would have been very happy to just ride out 2021 turning money into silver and food, not thundertoys. And yet…here I am. Can’t really complain, I reckon…I bet I could double my money by summer.

The deals come looking for you, alright……..

As an aside, I’m not really an AK guy. I respect them for what they are, and I have an excellent milled Arsenal AK for my AK needs, but I think that anything an AK can do I can do just as well, and more accurately, with an AR. And although the AK has a record of reliability, I think that any modern manufactured AR from a good manufacturer is right up there in reliability…but with the advantage of better sights, better optics, better accuracy, better ergos, better aftermarket support, and better standardization of parts. However, I will say that in a world of short-range (MOUT) environments I can see a case for the AK for it’s chunkier bullet. Anyway…..

The deals come looking for you, alright……..

  1. Actually when you see the price of ammo on Gun Broker and Auction Arms. You did damn good.
Saw a few auctions last week. Ammo. 100 rounds at the current bid of $165.00.
Saw a thousand rounds of Yugoslavian 8mm at $899.99. Some of this stuff is just crazy. But it’s nice to see people with that kind of money to burn.

    • Yeah, but evaluating your ammo by CTD’s notorious prices is just crazy. I remember buying that stuff for nine cents a round. Hell, back in the 90’s we used to get an SKS *and* a case of ammo for $150.

      • Yeah. But that was before Bubba banned the Chinese ammo because of the steel penetrator. The Chinese SKS’s also disappeared for a time. I see they are back. Pretty worn out. But I have a Yugo 59/66 I got in unissued condition for $148.50. Bought 2. Kept one for five years and the sold it for more than I paid for the pair. So I have $14 in shipping into the one I kept.

        • I did the exact same thing. I have two $159 Yugo 59/66 sitting in the closet. Good guns. Might be a good time for me to sell them…I’ve seen them go for some stupid money.

          • Yeah. The ones in Excellent condition are bringing in the neighborhood of $469.00 from my supplier. And when he has them you can get a ten gun case. I fully believe the Yugo made SKS is the best ever created. Every metal part except the bayonet is milled. And they came with a wealth of accessories.

  2. I remember buying steelcore x39 for $85/k (or was that in 1200 round wooden boxes? i cant rem) at Knob Creek back sometime during the 90s. I didnt have anything to shoot it thru, but i NEVER pass on a good deal. I remember some smartass saying “there goes another case of chink” as i hauled it back to the parking lot. Bought a couple more cases at the next couple of shows for $95 and $97.50. Ended up trading it for ammo i could use some years later at a nice exchange rate.
Congrats on the score! If you asked double around here, you wouldnt get to the ticket office for the gunshow with it. 3x is closer to reality these days around this area. (and i’m in a solid red area of the south)

    • 7.62×39 used to cone 1200 to a case. I have some Russian and Hungarian. The spam cans I have seen hold 900 rounds.
