Hedging bets

Well, if you’ve ever wondered how many 27-rd Magpul Glock mags are in a case, here’s your answer:

One hundred. Here’s the funny part – this isn’t the first case of them I’ve ordered. Here’s the scary part – I’ve lost track of how many I have. As far as 9mm Glock mags go, I’m somewhere around…mmmm….700, I think.

Because man does not live on 9mm alone, I also took the opportunity to add to this:

Funny thing is, in this market the gold is probably not as valuable as 9mm. Go figure.

And hit another milestone today (ETA: NOT my birthday…but thanks!) which reminds me that, sadly, I’m really not a kid anymore and I have to be a grownup. Darn it.

I miss Neverland.

  1. Happy Birthday young man.
    Don’t feel bad, I didn’t start to grow up until I hit 50 .

    • Warren:
      I agree – up to a point…
What would you have to say about someone who had 700 tins of beans but was short of (?).
I know, the thing you are short of will be different for each of us, but, take my word for it, we WILL be out of something.
Will 700 tins of beans make up for not having bootlaces or whatever?
Will people want to trade what you have for what you want?
You CAN have too much of a good thing….

      • I think you are confusing an investment with expected future profit for a long-term storage plan.

  2. I got a email notification yesterday from AIM surplus. They had some Tulammo for $26.95 per box as long as you bought a thousand rounds. In the fall of 2019 they had the same ammo for $6.29 per box if you bought a thousand rounds. I don’t see the limits on imports being increased at all under this Regime. If anything they will drop it or do away with imports altogether.

  3. If, in the course of your spring cleanup, you come across a case of ruger mini 14 mags that are taking up needed space, drop me a note.

    • Why did you not buy them Mini-14 mags when I recommended the Tapcos last year?

      • While I had a mini 14 and several mags, I hadn’t used it for years and was more focused on my AR platforms. Now I have 2 mini’s and I’m getting more into the platform, if for no other reason than it might garner less attention from the gun grabbers.

  4. I’m starting to think that ammo is the new gold. Mags are important: IF you have ammo. Call me a ‘conspiracy theorist’, but I can’t believe the sustained shortages we are seeing is a result of all of the new gun buyers. It just doesn’t explain all of the odd-ball calibers that are AWOL. You also can’t tell me that all of the newbies are sucking up every primer to be had. I think that it’s far more ominous. It’s my opinion that Bloomberg and Soros are frustrated with all of the failures of banning firearms, and have decided that the next best thing is to buy up the ammo making it unobtainable. They would most probably be warehousing it to supply the “peaceful protestors” when the time is right.

Ammo is short because it IS the newbies buying it up. And the survivalists. And the forward-thinking police departments. And speculators. And gun shops trying to lay in inventory at old pricing. And the usual hunting demand. And..and..and… Broadly speaking, every human in the US that owns a gun has bought more-than-their-usual amount of ammo. THe odd calibers are AWOL becaude once they are off the shelf, the manufacturer isn’t going to commit resources to a caliber like .257 Roberts or .32 H&R Mag that will sit on the shelf for the one in fifty shooters that has that caliber when they can dump those resources into .223, 9mm, .308 and make an instant profit. It’s strictly economics.

  5. I was wondering if someone else bought non-eagle or maple leaf 1\10oz AU. I look at it this way, if the collapse happens someone isn’t going to be giving me a higher price if it says maple leaf on it. 1oz of silver\gold is 1oz and that is what I’ll be paid for. Every time I open up the safe i kind of laugh at the coins i bought years ago at $36-40 for a 1\10 eagle and wish I would have bought a lot more.

    • Yeah, but here is also the argument that a minted coin is more widely accepted as being genuine whereas something from Sunshine or NWT has less ‘official’ look to it. Although, yes, there are counterfeit Eagles/Maples/etc they are still more likely recognized as “Hey those must be real gold” than the generics. “Bobs Precious Metal Foundry? Never heard of it.”

I buy strictly for the metal content, but I buy both…minted and generic.
