Turkeyday

Happy Thanksgiving, boys. Sometimes life is a swirling cesspool of despair from which no ray of hope can ever escape. (Or as I call it, “Lifes default setting”) But no matter how craptacular it is, it could often be worse. So, sure, take a moment to be grateful for what you have. But also be grateful to yourself for getting you thereYou overcame that crappy obstacle. You put yourself on the right track. You did the hard work. You made the tough choices. You fought the battles. You made the sacrifices. Sure, you may have had advice, help, and direction from others, but in the final analysis it was you who got you where you are now…good or bad. Own it. If you’re hitting bottom, slap yourself in the face a few times, grit your teeth, cowboy the F up, and do what needs to be done. If you’ve recovered from hitting bottom and are on your way to being a baller, keep your foot on the gas, amigo.

But take today to recognize what you’ve done and what still needs to be done. Then pig out, sleep it off, and get back to the plan.

  1. I am thankful for all of CZ’s work to keep up this blog so I became a patreon donator and would like to encourage all that can to do the same.

Having two cousins my age that I kind grew up with, one drank himself to death at age 42 and the other just OD’d on the new fentanyl laced dope. Broke their parent hearts so compared to them the rest of us are doing OK.

It’s all relative and lately when we have a good meal for some reason I think about those soldiers that starved to death at Valley Forge or died from disease in a hellhole of a military prison ship or POW camp in wars throughout history.

It is a good time to look around and give thanks for having food to eat, clothes/shoes to wear, a shelter to live in and water to drink. Everything else is gravy.

    • Boy you are right about that. A museum associated with the Army started putting out a Medal of Honor comic book, I think there are 2 or 3 of them now, and they seem well done. This seems like a good way to demonstrate this sort of dedication to boys. Another resource is the DDAy Museum in New Orleans has a Medal of Honor series. To me, it is amazing what these men did. Could I step up? My son? Hopefully. Most, BTW, are persons of color who basically accomplished superhuman feats in support of their country and buddies. JSJ

  2. Happy Thanksgiving!

You’re right – so much to be thankful for. Things could always be better, but the recognition that things could be much worse is also reality. I’m solidly middle class, but still have incredble wealth. Family, friends, a roof over my head. An understanding of what makes America great. Thanks to all of YOU out there participating daily in The American Dream. God Bless!

  3. Happy Thanksgiving and Thank you Commander for the effort you put into life and the info you pass on to us common troglodytes and dirt people. Providing laughter along the way of life with all its hiccups and glitches.
May the Good Lord shine His light upon all your parades.
    Long Live Our Republic.
Now – no more slacking – get busy.

  4. I am trying to think of this holiday as perhaps the last “normal” one we have for some time. To be appreciative of the relative ease of acquisition of all its components, of traveling to see family and friends – and even the price of fuel to do so. With luck, a year from now, I can breathe a sigh of relief that everything calmed back down. I highly doubt it, though.

  5. I’m in a very good place, only took me 30 yrs : )
