Hamilton gun show

You know, just because you can (somewhat) get away with selling .223 at eighty cents per round does not mean that all the other crap on your table has commensurately gone up in value. For example, the Smith and Wesson Model 10 has not been invented that is worth $1050. And you can cover that 4″ Highway Patrolman with hookers and cocaine and it is still not worth $1150.

I bought nothing. Nada. Zip. At least….not until I swung by a local gunshop on the way back to town. And…this followed me back to the truck:

Its a polymer KE Arms lower. The foundation for Gun Jesus’ project gun – the WWSD rifle. Now, I’d love to have one of those WWSD rifles but I’m not dropping that kinda  coin. But I am interested in the monolithic stock/receiver idea. As you know Cavalry Arms started this trend and these stock/frame combos are the natural extension of that. The notion is that by switching to a polymer lower you get a substantial weight and balance advantage. While telescoping stocks are fine, I never do anything with them that i can’t do with a full stock. And, I rather like full stocks but didnt like the weight. This gives me thebest of both worlds.

While I’d like to have a WWSD gun, I’ll probably hunt around for an upper that does what I’m looking for and mate it to this lower. I’ve always thought carbine uppers on full-stock lowers were a good idea and I’d be interested to see if this combo gives me that advantage without the weight penalty.

  1. The absolute best carbine I ever built was on a Cav Arms lower. It was light, whippy and handled like a dream. The weight savings looks good on paper but you really dont appreciate the effect it has until you have the build done and start actually handling the complete gun.

  2. gun shows are hit and miss now-a-days. I can usually find better deals on line. Went to one last weekend and it was $5 to park, $14 to get in the door and only about half the room had tables. Some of the tables were jewelry, cheap knives and other non gun related stuff.

Did pick up two boxes of 20 ga., 25 rounds for $10 so I didn’t leave empty handed.

  3. CZ,
I always had a rule when I went to gun shows- I leave with NO cash in my pockets. Well, the last gun show I went to most of the cash went home with me due to the ridiculous prices people were seeking. $1 a round for .380?? Really? Oh and let’s not even talk about the guy who has a table full of old open partial can of powder and primers he probably got at an auction and has no idea if said items are any good.

Well my rule was there for times like we live in now- buy in the times of plenty so you don’t have to pay stupid prices later

  4. I’ve given up going to gun shows in my area. Dudes are still trying to sell ammo they obviously bought at Wal-Mart several years ago for 60 cents a round and getting pissy YOU aren’t buying it. I’ve thought about getting one of those lowers and putting a brn-180 upper on it as a psudo-homage to a ar-180 just for giggles. I just can’t get past the price for that upper when psa is giving uppers away for 1\3 the price.
A rifle I had for a long while was a A1 1\12 twist dissapator upper on a A1 stock and just loved it. Looked goofy but loved the rifle length sights. when I shot out that barrel i put a m4 style upper on it and a retractable stock to more fit in with what others were running at the time.

  5. I was at Crossroads/ SAR in Phoenix this weekend.
There were very few good deals.
There were LOTS of high prices that may have had some foundation a year ago, but definitely NOT now.
I understand higher than MSRP at a show, particularly for private sales, but double to triple MSRP is ridiculous.
For example, an ordinary basic 10/22 with no box or accessories for $800…

  6. I’m an RSO at a local range and a month or two ago a shooter showed up with a rifle built on one of those. Boy was it light. I do think I want one.

  7. What kind of aftershave do you wear? You’ve got to be giving off an odor or hard to detect brain waves that attracts these deals.

  8. I have one. I mated it to a PSA upper, bought during one of their free shipping deals, and am very happy with it. I put a Romeo5 red dot on it, no irons, and it’s been very accurate.

When I asked, I did find out (probably from Russel via email) that they designed it for Gen 3 PMAGs. So, if you have a lot of Gen 2s, you may need to adjust your loadout.

Look for online deals; mine was a hair under 200, if you know what I mean.

    • If it accepts Gen 3 PMAGS, it should not have a problem with the Gen 2s. The Gen 3s were designed to be cross platform compatible, not less.

  9. I went too. Only thing I bought was some local honey. The one that caught my eye was the 8” Dan Wesson .357 revolver, but he wouldn’t budge on the price. Oh well. Will go to the Kalispell show next time instead.

I’ll check out the Frontier shop next time I’m down there.
