Scientia potentia est

Man, it’s hard not to read the news without incurring a a feeling of dread. No doubt someone in the comments will say something like “I don’t even watch the news anymore”, which in my opinion is like saying “I don’t keep my eyes open when I’m driving”. Sure, the news is almost uniformly gloomy, and rather depressing, but…so what? The whole point of news is to let you know about things that might impact you in a big way. Yeah, I feel a little helpless and hopeless reading the news, but I read it every single morning because, as a survivalist, I need every advantage I can get and knowing whats going on around me and around the world, even if its gloomy, is information that can give me an advantage.

Personally, while I think that we can objectively agree that the news is pretty often bad, my attitude is made better by knowing that once I know what the problem is, I can prepare against it. Still, it can be a bit of a downer to read the depressing news day after day.

The most…agitating…things in the news these days? The plethora of articles, seemingly at random, about ‘assault weapons’. It seems like every news outlet has a bunch of articles about an assault weapons ban. Were I the suspicious type, I’d say its part of a scheme to ‘normalize’ the idea….”Ban assault weapons? Why, everyone knows thats a good idea!” they’ll say…because it’s all theyve been fed as of late.

The other depressing news? With inflation running at levels unheard of since the days of eight-track, the current administration is wanting to spend more money it doesn’t have. You have to admire the optimism, if not the common sense, of the person who doubles down on a bad hand.

Resilience is the name of the game. And to be resilient against something you need to know what that something is. So, for me, yeah the news is a drag but so is being caught unprepared.

And, by the way, ingest news intelligently….remember, there’s three sides to every story: yours, theirs, and the truth (or facts). Don’t get all your news from just one (or even two or three) sources. These days forewarned really can wind up being forearmed.

  1. Where would one find this “news” that you speak of? All I see is lies, fraud, deceipt and propaganda from both wings of that bird.

    • You beat me to if. It’s Called ‘Manufacturing Consent’

Commader Zero should lose 1 point for this post. Sorry CMD.-1 but you shouldn’t be watching the telescreen at all….unless it’s just being used as a monitor for your personal collection DVDs et al and etc.

I’ll keep reading you…you still have two strikes left!

        • Dig and Loren,

In every lie there is always a grain of truth hidden. When gathering intel you have to learn how to separate the two. In our case the opposition is telling us exactly what their intentions are if you choose to listen. You just need to remove your ego and pride from the equation. Even the movies coming out of Hollywood give you information into their social and political agenda if you pay attention. God gave us two ear and one mouth for a reason! Use them the way God intended.

          • 3rdMan,

These creatures that control the flow of information and disinformation, feel that they will be forgiven if they publish their evil intentions. Look at Agenda 2030, WEF, our Whitehouse and the Georgia Guidstones for example.

        • I was a 68 Bravo (combat medic) for 8 years so you as well as myself could have the freedom to agree to disagree with one another.
I get most of my news from overseas by the time the US monopolies on news get through with it chopping and spinning a tweaking to fit their agenda. The same articles or subject matter is completely obfuscated.
Love your Blog though… IT’s GREAT.

        • Dig,

And because they are stupid enough to publish it, we should just ignore it? That is exactly what they want you to do. They have created a process to spoon feed the masses their agenda. How do you eat an Elephant, one bite at a time.

      • The ‘news’ may be crap (on many levels) but it is better to know both what the official stories are and what the proles are saying publically. Seems to me that ignorance increases vulnerability.

  2. Speaking of resiliency are you going to re-post the Mono Vault article?

Specialized cleaning for long term storage is also nice data.

Those 0 dark 30 visits might make your home storage unavailable.

  3. The one goid piece of news is Congressional Representative Matt Gaetz has introduced a measure to get rid of the BATFE.
That is good. But the legislation thst needs to be repealed are as follows. National Firearms Act of 1934. After repeal of the Volsted act they needed something for the alcohol tax agents to do. So the first Progressive infringement on the 2nd .ammendment. This act was imposed on America because of actions of three dozen people. Referred to as the motorized bandits. John Herbert Dillinger. Charlie Arthur Floyd, Lester Gillis. Ma Barker and her boys.
While we’re at it lets get rid of the remains parts of the Gun Control Act of 1968. Which was total bullshit. And also what remains of the so called assault weapons ban that Bubba pushed through that did nothing.
A modern main battle rifle is a selective fire rifle that goes from safe to semi auto to full auto operation. The AWB banned look a like rifles that were not equipped with selective fire capability
All are infringements on the 2nd ammendment. Hopefully this is the opening salvo to end assaults on the Bill of Rights. Especially the 2nd ammendment.

  4. Excellent points to consider for all of us. I do the same since being prepared for “whatever may come” is the lifestyle I have chosen. Does that mean I can handle anything? Far from it, but I am still better prepared than about 99.8% of the population……Now think about that for a second…..its not designed to make me or anyone feel good because that bar is low my friends. The general population is so inadequately prepared that it is truly scary. Do I have room for improvements, yes and I work towards that each and every day because we simply do not know how bad this is going to get or in what form it will take.
My advice, think through the worst case scenario for your current situation and start mitigating that by getting prepared and building resiliency. I like to follow Reagans advice to “Trust but verify”. Treat the news sources like raw intelligence, take it for what it is and look at more sources to either confirm it or debunk it. You will be better for the effort. Stay safe all…..

  5. yeah, i call it gathering intel. feel the need to shoot something afterward but its a necessary evil. then i go gather the eggs and chat with the chickens and everything is good again.

  6. I agree Zero we can’t just be like ostrich’s and stick our heads in the sand to bad news or what we don’t like to hear. I also look at news/ events as an advance warning on what to possibly bulk up for in my preps. Negative events do not affect my mood one bit really, but then I’m not affected by not seeing sunlight for weeks like I hear happens with many people ( SAD, or seasonal affective disorder I believe they call it ) . So I guess bad news is subjective in a way for many people. Forewarned is forearmed as they say. Get information and try and draw the correct conclusions from it from our preppier perspective.

  7. Following. One must flush out their helmet daily if they follow any form of “MSM”. Remember the axiom about if you have a t.v. in your house, it is like having a _____ in your living room. All media is cabal controlled (6/7 corporations of the same ilk) and are devious fifth columnists. Just judiciously purview those few web based news and data portals that passes your b.s. filter parameters. Fwiw: I have no antenna television reception, cable, satelite, or internet t.v. to watch and annoy me for the last 18 months in my new A.O. location. Took ten points off the blood pressure probably. Unplug yourself from the borg, go out and touch grass or build something with your hands. Check out: Anonymous Conservative .com to get schooled on the intelligence and surveillance ops ongoing. You will be a lost sheep out there without that knowledge base.
    Stay frosty and informed.

  8. If you don’t get the news, you’re uninformed; if you believe the news you’re misinformed….

  9. I’m not sure your buddy at Survivor blog (Rawles) would agree with you here. Hope you two agree to just disagree! And that you don’t split the sheets as they say over this obvious rift in the survival strategy you both put forward.

But don’t listen to him(Rawles) on bit coin he is all wet there like you were here. So, like you said you gotta kinda pick and choose to who and how much you swallow.

Do yourself a favor and read (there is a video available too) “manufacturing Consent” Yes it by a liberal I hate but yet is all still true information!

  10. Remember the wise words of Mark Twain: “If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you do read the newspaper, you’re misinformed.”

  11. Sorry CZ, but I also have to disagree. I do not have access to cable or broadcast TV here which suits me just fine. I do check a few of the MSM websites here and there to see what the propaganda du jour is, but do so knowingly that it is 1% truth and 99% lies. Worse than that, it is intentionally designed to create depression in the viewer. Why would you intentionally ingest poison?

  12. “My job is not to report the news… my job is to sway public opinion” ~ Walter Cronkite. Probably the only truth that came from his mouth.

  13. information is knowledge, knowledge is power. If the news or for that matter a radio transmission, advertisement, or a flyer in the bathroom at the strip club can give me a heads up that puts me a little ahead of everyone else, I’ll take it.

    • I definitely need to add the strip club to my list for intel gathering! lol in all seriousness those type of locations offer intel on the underside of you AO.

  14. It’s worthwhile to listen to your enemies as sociopaths have a strong need to brag of their “plans”.

Also, sociopaths try out their “experiments” in smaller scale like Sir Lanka and sad to say Canada (Medical Assistance In Death MAID, anybody?) so worth study.

    Forewarned is forearmed.

  15. The problem is finding sources of real information and not just spin/propoganda/ misinformation. Without tv for several years I find myself more informed than anyone I talk to(especially global events). The sources seem to be disapearing very quickly as corp media swallows almost any outlet as soon as it gains traction. Any sources of accurate, minimally filtered(just who/what/when/where/why) need to be disseminated as widely as possible.(anyone have suggestions)

  16. I’m a 72 year old single guy (single at this point in my life by choice) – I’m reasonably healthy, I exercise semi-regularly, and I live in a very safe, suburban, senior community about 35 miles away from the almost 9th largest city in the US. I do my best to avoid pretty much all of the news sources, all politicians, and any potentially open-ended financial obligations (like a wife). I don’t keep extra food or water on hand, nor do I have any kind of power generation capabilities. I like the idea of living away from anything and anyone else, but at my age, my body wouldn’t like it. I’m social with my neighbors. I do have plenty of guns and ammo to protect myself when I’m out and about, and for the rare case that social unrest, vandalism, etc. would visit my neighborhood. I figure that if there’s a catastrophic event, sure, I’m screwed – but doing what I’d need to do to survive in a remote location on my own is beyond my physical capabilities – heck, I hire a guy to cut my small lawn. BUT, I am debt free with enough money to cover pretty much any financial demand – I worked hard all my life to be financially secure – so, at this point, no one has any financial strings tied to me and I can pretty much do as I want to, wherever I want to do it. When someone \ something is bothering me, it’s easy to ask them how much $$$ it’s gonna take to make them and their problem with me go away. I do worry about the government taxing or appropriating my assets to help the many “takers” out there – I’d be a very contented guy if I could find a way to get my financial assets away from the IRS’s reach. I carefully avoid any news, and I count the number of people I trust completely using just a few fingers. I’m working hard to spend the assets I’ve earned before I die. My life ain’t perfect, but it’s easy.

    • Hi!:
One answer might be to keep as little in banks and safety-deposit boxes as you can get away with month-to-month.
I suggest Gold and Silver coins bought quietly and kept close at hand.
If you want to leave them to someone (or some organization) when you go, you can, but the gummint won’t know about them until then.

      All the best…

  17. The only reason I can discern to watch TV news (any of it) is to determine what the enemy is saying…..as an counter intel driver.

  18. Learning WHERE to gather news you may be able to trust is a skill all it’s own and requires ongoing effort to keep your source list current.

For me, I pay for a daily newsletter that covers national and international events and and intel.
Then there’s paying attention to some local & regional news sources keeping in mind the inherent bias and probably central origin of some of it.

Don’t overlook non-mainstream sources as blogs, video channels etc. Blog comments can add use tidbits as well.

    Steelheart

    • Steelheart:
You do have a point about finding alternate sources of information, but don’t forget there are as many crazies and liars on the internet as there in “mainstream” media.
      Be selective!

      Ceejay

    • Steelheart,

Survivalblog used to be a wealth of information in their comments section. Now that they deleted the ability to exchange information with posters, their site has become very lackluster.

      • Hi!
A major reason why he stopped comments was because not enough people were agreeing with his religious beliefs.
He really HAS been drinking his own Cool-Ade…

  19. Lately I have been getting most of my news from memes…turns out they are surprisingly accurate as well as funny.
