Speaking of BBQ guns

A couple people were curious what I wanted in a barbecue gun. Well, my plan was one of the following:

In a nice extra fancy floral engraved Tom Threepersons holster from El Paso Saddlery.

And, of course, a nice set of showy grips.

Now, I know an engraver here in the valley who does good work ( Mike Gouse ), but I rather prefer factory engraving even if it’s just machine done.

So, there you have it. Attend some big social function and if you see some goober with a gussied up GP-100, well, say hi ’cause its probably me.

  1. Yes. It is a cultural accoutrement, carried like a badge of distinction among peers and strangers. One has to tip a hat to cartel fellas with the nickel and gold 38 supers or 45s with blinged out grips and crafted holster kit. As I elder out myself I am game on with a bling trophy status side arm, worthy of Smithsonian Institute level of presentation for a heroic deeds kind of thing. If they would allow senior n.c.o. and officers to carry common calibered barbecue guns that might solve enlistment and retention issues. (Among other items as well, duh.) Heck, if your standing aside a deep trench and committing Hague level offenses, on color photography, might as well be a star actor and go for an Oscar type of performance, wardrobe and all.

    Be Best, stay frosty.

  2. Addendum Report. The GP-100 class is a swell gun, for durability and workmanship. Range chum here, can’t beat it. Go stainless as it polishes up nice with either moto tool or by hand with most compounds available. I like mother’s mag polish among other fine rouge type polishing compounds. The brandishing of a magnum force side arm gun, when necessary, that is loved and polished to gleam under any lighting circumstances, is in of itself it’s own force to be reckoned with, aside from your self. Engrave some such codex on it and your all business all the way.

Only One Chance, so, Stay Frosty.

  3. The legend of the BBQ gun is from the Texas Rangers who were assigned duty at the Governor of Texas outdoor events. Their regular side arm and rig just wasn’t appropriate for these formal events, so they went with something more fancy.

  4. Find yourself a GP-100 with the 5 inch barrel. Even more flair! I have one, the only downside is holster selection. I also ended up looking at the El Paso Saddlery stuff.
Very nice, gotta get the fancy floral with matching belt. Maybe in a Texas Ranger style crossdraw.

  5. I’m the Canuck who ask the question” what is a BBQ gun” in the earlier posting. I have a GP-100 SS Match in 10mm with a nice formed leather holster, I don’t remember the company name. So I guess I have BBQ gun as well!! Yay me!!
