Mags

I didn’t even know police surplus M82A1 mags were a thing, but….

I daresay that might be enough mags for a gun that costs almost $9 a round to shoot.

I lucked out and found these for $60 ea. on GunBroker. Serendipitous, that. Apparently the universe wants me to have a squared away Barrett. Maybe the universe is planning on bringing back the t-rex or something.

Still to purchase – optics. And I am dreading the outlay.

  1. A quick look for a Leupold 4.5 yadda yadda (possibly used) is a grand. No way it’s the only option, but a ballpark.

    Glad you have ammo covered.

  2. Yeah, that’s gonna sting. I know you have a penchant for nice optics and this one’s gonna hurt! LOL! If there’s an upside to it at least you’ll spend a good deal of time doing research.

  3. You best just suck it up and purchase the
Nightfforce . That 3lb one will help
Tame that beast jumping around and make it more fun to backpack into the hinterboonies . The gun needs the best .

The 5-25×56 f1 with ..1 mil knobs and zero stop is a very clean usable scope .

If you wanna look through one I could
Bring it into zoo town some day

    • I second your Nightforce choice. I have the same scope on mine that is over 25 years young and still going striong.

    • With T3 reticule.

Dryfire that pig till the house comes down.
And feed her 750gr. Match rds.
      Sheโ€™ll do a solid Min.

  4. “$9 a round to shoot.” ? If you don’t reload, Ammoseek.com is your friend. Lots of choices from $2ish per round.

    • I don’t really count $2.89 a round as “$2ish”.
And that is for milsurp, so not the thing for highly accurate long range shooting; ammo for that will be MUCH more.

      • Ronnie Barrett himself said it’s a 2.5 MOA gun at best. The 107 is apparently better but by how much I don’t know.

And I bought about 4K factory new linked API/APIT for less than $3 each, before shipping.

  5. The pain of quality optics fades when you’re hitting MOA at a measured mile.

It turns into a smile if you’re shooting at a mannikin made up of watermelons, and stacked to average human proportions.

Be sure and link the video.

Only accurate rifles are interesting.” – Col. Jeff Cooper

      Townsend Whelen, actually.

Oh, I know you get what you pay for when it comes to glass….I’m just saying I’m not looking forward to the ‘cry once’ part.

      • I have no doubt Cooper neglected to mention he was quoting someone else. Especially for something that true.

I feel your pain, and will again when I similarly top a couple of purchases quietly minding their business on the shelf.

IMHO, anything shoulder-mounted and larger than a .22LR that won’t reliably hit things out to 600m is annoying.

  6. …” police surplus M82A1 mags”… Shouldn’t be a ‘Thing’. the Po-lice have absolutely No Business Whatsoever with Military Arms p- this goes for ANYTHING Full-Auto, and Especially Armored Vehicles. In fact, taken to its logical conclusion, .Mil ‘veterans’ should be Banned from all ‘Law Enforcement” agencies, period.
You Disagree? Read what the Founders of the Nation had to say about a “Standing Army”, which is Exactly what the communist ‘government’ here has created.

    • I suppose it depends on how you define ‘military arms’. Every firearm has, at some point, been a ‘military arm’. Rifles, shotguns, handguns, etc.
I don’t think anyone would disagree that pistols are a ‘military arm’…after all, literally every military on earth use a pistol pretty much identical to whats in your average police holster.
Does this mean that police have no business having pistols? We’re all familiar with the Winchester ‘Trench Gun’ that was used by the military in WW1…so that seems to make the shotgun a military arm. No shotguns for the police, then as well. And the AR carbines? Well, I guess those too. Which leaves us with…British police.

      • Maybe you take me too Literally, or I didn’t make myself Clear enough – “police” Should Not be Armed and Equipped like Soldiers. Look at any Pics or Vids of thugpig “Swat Teams” and you might get my point. That sh*t has No Place in a “Free” society. Semi-Auto Pistols and AR’s are in common use by Citizens; if Full-Auto Weapons were not Restricted as they are, you might have a point about “Common Use”.

        • “Maybe you take me too Literally”

I didn’t know I should discount what you say. What else do I have to go on but your actual comments…

  7. For budget Glas options: Bushnell Elite, Millet & Arken (have both., used Millet TRS on a Safety Harbor Arms .50 SHTF). If you can afford Barret…then agree with Nightforce or Leupold. 50 is always a crowd pleaser….unless on the receiving end.
