Need to inventory

I need to do some inventory this month. I’ve been a bit lax about adding things to the preponomicom and I simply cannot afford to be caught unprepared (or overprepared) given how it seems like everything in the country is in some sort of race to Third world lifestyle.

By the way, how can you be overprepared, you ask? Simple….you inadvertently acquire more of something than you could realistically need and that commitment of resources prevents you from being prepared elsewhere.

I’m reasonably confident that the future of me needing to use my preps does not look like Red Dawn, Jericho, Last of Us, or Walking Dead. I am more inclined to believe it looks more like …what it is now – inflation, scarcity, violent crime, homelessness, reckless government, and that sort of thing.

I know I keep saying it, but it’s true: You’re likelihood of being in an emergency that requires remediation using $50 bills is magnitudes of order greater than being in an emergency that requires remediation using .50 BMG.

Not saying it won’t or can’t happen the other way, just saying that my experience says the odds favor the personal EOTWAWKI occurring more than it does the civilization-wide one.

A personal EOTWAWKI is something that directly impacts you a lot more than it impacts society as a whole. Job loss. Health crisis. Divorce. A close death. Bankruptcy. House fire. These are all things that bring your life to a screeching halt but barely make a blip on the radar of anyone outside your immediate circle. Those are the things that will happen far more often than UN troops going door-to-door giving forced Covid vaccinations.

So..I need to print out the preponomicon, grab a clipboard, and hit the shelves. Its a not unpleasant way to spend the afternoon when it’s 95 degrees outside. Hanging out in a cool basement working on that warm fuzzy feeling from knowing you can take care of your needs for the next year or so……not a bad way to spend a few hours.

  1. Speaking of basements, have you ever had yours tested for Radon? I’m not sure of its prevalence in your area, but as it’s highly carcinogenic and colorless and odorless, and accumulates in basements, it might be work your health to get it professionally tested.

Many people will say it’s snake oil, but it’s actually because the long-term studies were only completed in the past couple decades as to the dangers.

  2. Blackrock just positioned for a market correction, soon. Looks like commercial real estate loans are going to start tanking even more than they are now, Yellow Freight was the canary in the coal mine.

Going heave on freeze dried food. Going to dump stocks and money markets, get into CD’s and cash until this blows over, IF it blows over. Russia pops off a nuke and watch out.

  3. Following. Based and red pilled posting, that is why we are here. Your math and logic to the “big picture” are instructive to us salty frens as well as green shoots upstarts in this prep/survival sphere. My train of thought is consumable commodities, forecasting out the everyday and regularity expenditures of things, then laying in a couple-few years worth of redundant back stop supplies is prudent to the degree of a savant-mensa level of thinking. True story: I was out of work for a stretch and donated plasma just to garner cash for laying in more food and sundries supplies, not knowing the future. Seen enough of those documentary refugee videos to get scared straight to get it on with the prepping. Cash is king, but stocks of stuff, makes or breaks things down on our micro level. Stay stocked, and Stay Frosty.

  4. Yea, but remediation by a 50 BMG vs $50 bills is SOOOO much more fun. But that said personally I like the 338 Lapua a little better..

    • Watch some Kensinton Ave,Philly videos- throw some Meth in something like that and they won’t be slow

  5. Chocolate, or vanilla?
    Steak, or lobster?
    Blondes, or brunettes?
    $50 bills, or .50BMG?

    Both please, thanks very much.

  6. Don’t look at it as being “overprepared”, look at it as being in a position to help others less prepared in your community.

    • May be, but if that ties up resources that could have been used to cover a deficiency elsewhere, then its an issue.

  7. Yes. Don’t over invest in one category, “muh guns and ammo” and forsake other primacy areas. Be keen for import dependant items whether China mart everything as well as kamik boots and snow shovels from our cousins up north. Shop those thrift stores for training exercises cause like Jericho that is going to be it for a long stretch. Those frens in a sketchy a.o. or with dreams of moving to a redoubt paradise, stock all those moving supplies, (home depot-lowes boxes in bulks, plastic totes,, tape, moving blankets, hand carts, dollys, tie down straps, along with the strategy researching) mobility is flexibility, flexibility is resilience. Pro tip use that white Elmer’s glue to glue the bottom flaps of your bugging out moving boxes, so no blow outs from your heavy treasures. Go outside touch grass, have a smoke or beer then reassess your plans, then a bolt will hit you, that yep I sure missed that one item, good catch vern. Study the natives, even homeless pros or historical videos of wars and calamities will give much insight. Better a happy camper than a sniveling victim. Stay inventoried to stay frosty.

  8. I contend that there will ALWAYS be things that you will need that you didn’t plan for or couldn’t perceive in advance. Having a surplus beyond your needs guarantees that you will have barter-able goods. The kinds of things that preppers tend to stockpile are precisely what others will be looking for.

  9. Inventory….. uggg!

It’s dwindling just a bit as the kids leave home. I’m making sure they leave home at least somewhat prepared. The BEST thing they’ve taken is a good head on their shoulders. Smart, hard working, know right from wrong, everything a parent could ask for. Neither of the older kids are yet in a position to prep. too much other than basic things, being debt free and frugal helps! We’re blessed they are so healthy and capable.

I’ve certainly had to modify my own expectations over the years, never where I want to be, but mostly in reasonably good shape. I’m not sure 1.5 billion would make me more secure honestly!

  10. There is an iPhone APP, Inventorywolf. I have used it for several years. I found it very helpful.

  11. Hi, I need to protect my inventory. Living in a rural area, can you recommend a perimeter alarm system for long term (post emp)? I’m looking at 12ga perimeter trip alarm systems. Can you give me some insight on this? Very Respectfully,

  12. I’ve been working diligently on all my documentation lately, taking inventory and printing it out has been a big part of that process. I’m also printing out detailed instructions to run everything in my “absence”.
Where is X? Check the Book.
What if Y happens? My plan is in the Book.
If I need to sell things to GTFO forever, what did it cost originally? Probably not in the Book because that’s something I don’t even want to contemplate.
