Uzi does it

There’s a nationally famous gun collector who lives a couple miles from me…Hayes Otoupalik. Hayes has stuff that when you look it up in a reference book it will say “Twelve known to exist” and Hayes will have four of them…he’s that kind of level of collector. Once, a million years ago, I asked him how he manages to find such good deals. He said something that always stuck with me. He said, “When you’ve been doing this long enough, you dont have to go looking for the deals…the good deals come looking for you.” And he was 100% correct.

Todays deal that I wasn’t looking for but came looking or me:

It’s a Vector Uzi with mag purse, a dozen magazines, sight tool, mag loader, wooden stock, sling, extra foregrip, and a few other bells and whistles. Previous owner cerokoted it desert tan. The punchline: $1000.

Last Uzi Ii got was a genuine Action Arms B model and I paid, I think $900 for it. And that was with only one mag and no other goodies. And that was fifteen years ago.

The Uzi is a heavy gun. In a world of polymer 9mm PCC’s this thing is a chunkyboy. But….its a proven design that is, literally, bomb-proof. This package of goodies could get stuffed in a 40mm ammo can, tucked away for twenty years, and when it finally sees the light of day again it would still be a somewhat viable choice for running-and-gunning through a zombie apocalypse.

Very tempted to do the paperwork and SBR it. Might just have to go that route. That 16″ barrel is just ten shades of derp.

  1. You could get a dummy silencer that comes back and covers half of the barrel. You can also find real silencers that slide over a drilled and threaded barrel so that they don’t stick out.
Personally I don’t like the finish but for that cost I’d strongly consider it.

  2. Yeah, it is crying out to be turned into an SBR.

I’m looking at getting a pistol caliber carbine and going the SBR route.

      • I want an MP5 clone, but the cost compared to an AR15 PCC is very hard to justify.

I used an MP5SD in the Army on multiple occasions, and while it was a very nice piece of kit, someone else was paying for it. I can put an AR 9mm PCC together for a fraction of the cost of an MP5-clone, and easily mount optics, a can, etc, on it for a fraction of what it would cost to do with an MP5-clone. And the price of magazines alone is a significant issue.

But I suspect sooner or later I will be signing a 4473 for a PTR or MKE MP5-clone… “Want” rather than “Need” and all that…

        • I have a bunch of 9mm PCC….Uzi, Ruger, CZ, etc. All of those are straight blowback which works just fine, but because of their nature are heavy and clunky. A locked-breech (or delayed, I suppose) gun frees up a lot of weight which is rather nice. Also the compactness of something like an MP5k is pretty sweet. If someone would make a reliable PCC with a lock breaech mechanism (something like an M1 carbine in 9mm) that would be sweet. And, yes, I know theres a 9mm M1 carbine out there from one of the foreign importers and, from everything I’ve read, its junk.

  3. Very, very, very cool. I remember firing an UZI in the 1980s, and yes, they’re heavy! And yes, I’m jealous! 🙂

You just need the mirror shades, bomber jacket, work shirt, jeans, combat boots, twin Detonics .45’s in an Alessi shoulder rig, and a musette bag for UZI mags to be rockin’ the 80s survivalist pulp fiction look!

    • If it’s twin Detonics and a Musette bag [CZ got one last year} of mags it has to be an CAR 15. Now if it was an MP40……
Was that 40 years ago??? I is old [note the small O]!!!

    • Bob G:
      Love the Jerry Ahern reference.
He started me on the apocalypse fiction genre.
      From there to prepping.

      Ceejay

    • Interesting….in the image the gun appears to have a blank firing adapter or subcaliber device in the muzzle. Additionally, the bolt is closed and since this was an open-bolt gun it would seem Neville isn’t quite as ready as he thinks.
