Bluehost, the folks that host this website, apparently had some hiccups earlier. Thus, if you came here earlier and got a page saying things timed out or couldnt be found…thats what it was. Next time, check this link to see if the problem is the hosting or if its something else.
Picked up a used HiPower the other day. An old T-series from the 60’s. Got a good price on it but it isn’t exactly in cherry condition. I just got back from the range and put twenty rounds through it to make sure it works. This thing has no bluing on it whatsoever…to the point that I wonder if its been hard chromed or nickeled. It predates the stainless HiPowers so either this thing is nickeled/chromed or absolutely every speck of it is in the white. I got a good deal on it and I may wind up making it a project gun….send it off for a front sight dovetail, new sights, new trigger, some cerokote, and maybe match barrel.
I mentioned the purchase to someone and they asked if it was a purchase for keeping up at the Beta Site. I had to laugh a bit at that. No, no, I said, I’ve been accumulating guns for the Beta Site for dang near ten years or more at this point. Thats partially what all those Ruger P95’s are for. When everything is ready, there’ll be no shortage of guns to transport and secure at the Beta Site. Well beyond the tertiary level of backup. More along the PACER line…(Primary, Auxiliary, Contingency, Extra, Redundant/Reserve.)
I need to go to the Beta Site this weekend and scope out where to have the conex dropped. I don’t want it sitting in the middle of my building area where it’ll stick out like a sore thumb and it greets my gaze first thing in the morning, but at the same time I don’t want it all the way on the other side of the property so I have to walk a half mile to get my stuff. I need to find a place that is convenient, but a tad out of the way. Since naturally flat space is at a bit of a premium up there, I need to examine all possibilities thoroughly.
Its darn near a hundred degrees out there today, but believe it or not, the Beta Site will probably see snow here in less than two months. I need to start hustling and get stuff done.
If you have any misgivings about thieves, you could salt the place with sabotaged weapons and ammunition. Grossly overpressure loads, worn out gats or gats modified to negate safety features, gats or gear with concealed i-tags or similar.
What are the thieves or their next of suspiciously close kin going to do; present themselves at the sheriff’s office pressing charges while swathed in bandages over dreadful injuries from catastrophic firearm failures, or a decidedly incriminating coroner’s report? “Sheriff, I/he/she/it/them stole this gun and ammo from CZ’s hunting lodge, before trashing the place, and it blew my/their hand/eye/face off in commission of another dastardly crime”?
Just make sure to keep the specially enhanced things separate from your healthy gear. And worst case have a way of disposing of the self-slain robber/vandal, or at least plausibly explaining the corpse/medically needy corpus of a criminal dumbass. It might be the sheriff or a member of his posse….

You might consider taking your drone to obtain aerial pics in assisting your decision on placement of the conex… Lately, I’ve noticed a product by Vosker which might be a security answer… Although there might be a monthly fee as it’s a wireless system which gives you live viewing and alerts, when you’re away from the site.
Placement would be critical so as to keep it charged, and to avoid being disabled…
If you were to go this route, I’d never disclose placement to anyone…

I have a 1968 hi power and was wonder why not 13 rounds in the magazine?

When you upgrade your Hi-Power remove the magazine safety, install an enlarged safety lever and never put more than 12 rounds in the 13 round magazine (British Army SOP).
That’s a carryover from worn-out magazine springs back in the day. Modern Hi-Power mags like Mec Gar, don’t suffer from that problem.
Had a thought while reading this. You have cameras to keep an eye on your stuff. Are they the only cameras out there? Might a ‘neighbor’ have one out there also? Not for any nefarious purpose like finding your buried caches or anything.
Anything is possible, I suppose.
Well, it’s pretty easy to use a camera to find a camera, especially those using IR. I would certainly do some quick research and make sure to scan for any and all camera lenses pointed my way.
Hi Powers are nice, but when I’ve seen them recently their prices have been way high for the condition (and I don’t see them often).
